Vacation ideas

How original.

Jollystone park chincoteague island, stay at their cabin with bathroom and enjoy their onsite waterpark, bring a beach tent and some cold drinks/food and beach toy and drive to beach (within 5 min, it’s walkable but would be too hot). It’s a small and quiet town you can walk around. The only down side is it has a lot of mosquitoes.

What about Ocean City?

I think Cape Charles is great for young kids.

+1. There is the whole lake for water things + rivers/smaller lakes nearby (Harington Manor State Park, Swallow Falls, etc.). Downtown Oakland has some cool train and railroad stuff that will entertain any kid who likes transportation. And you can have your pick of rentals - they run from lakefront mansions to tiny cabins up in the mountains.

Another vote for cape charles- the water is shallow for a distance, parking is easy, all the restaurants are in one small stretch (that includes an ice cream shop). there is a decent playground.

Another (closer) option is Lewes beach. about 2 hrs from DC, very family friendly, also shallow waters.

Check out the Delmarva peninsula. Beach/waterfront accessible and you might find good airbnbs.

If you're fine with one stop along the way - OBX is an excellent destination.

I 100% agree with no planes. We waited ourselves because that is fun for no one. These days there are so many delays, issues, and layovers - I'm not even taking my kids now that they're all out of diapers. We can wait for middle school/high school.
