DS is recent grad and DD finishing up junior year. Made great friends, involved in clubs and other activities. Great liberal arts education with faculty that are support undergraduate students.
For VA residents a great value for the education dollar. |
Huh? I have been to several WaWas that sell gas and that do not sell gas. |
I think a lot of the intensity at WM comes from how internally driven the student is. All students going to WM are used to doing well, and some can push themselves very hard. My son is very laid-back about it, and I think has a healthy outlook. He studies harder/smarter than in high school. But when he got a B in his language grad requirement it was fine. And I wasn't upset in the least. He certainly had the ability to get an A, but he was happier doing other things than do extra work for a class that, in the end, won't mean much. |
I posted this. My source is my WM student. It gets an “apparently” because IDK if it’s true or not. TBH, I don’t care. I do think there is something funny about a bunch of college kids who love hanging out at midnight on a weekend at a chain I associate with gas stations. But, there are certainly much worse things they could be doing. |
This is fun. Wawa for #1!

They are all over Philly/Eatern PA and NJ campuses…I mean you can get a $6 foot long hoagie, all kinds of rewards points, etc….and they are open late |
Socially - a total party school. Academically - He wishes he followed his sister to Gtown. |
+1 Our family has had several W&M graduates but from 20+ years aho. We love it! |
Wait, what? This thread is about W&M— a small state college in VA. What school are you talking about? |
+1. My kid has figured out that if you order for your group on the app and have them Venmo or cash app you, then you can basically never pay for your meal. Add to funny WM TWAMP-Y thing: the Hogworts Express (Amtrak stuff with hundreds of WM kids headed to NOVA and beyond) on breaks. My favorite, because it means my kid is headed home. And I love seeing all the kids finding their people (and occasionally their dogs). And hating on grad students and seniors ringing the Wren Bell (this week was apparently grad students and I got a couple annoyed texts). But I know when it’s my kid’s turn, it will be the proudest (and bittersweet) moments of her life. |
Thanks, sounds fun. Question though. The article is pretty critical of W&M dining halls. Is that accurate? |
Parent of a current student. And yes, dining halls are probably the biggest downside to WM. DD ‘s freshman year was just bad. I was hearing “medium rare chicken” jokes. They got a new dining vendor this year and I’m hearing that it’s better— but still not fantastic. Whatever that means. Apparently more upgrades in dining in the works for next year. But it’s fair to say no one chooses WM for the awesome food. |
It's a two year old article. At that time, WM was having issues with the dining provider. A new contract with a different dining service started the summer of '23. No complaints from my son regarding the current dining. |
If your Dc thinks W&M is a total party school they must wish to never leave their dorm. |
Ooh do you have an inside scoop? |
