It typically takes a major illness/injury or life event to be able to take an exam during the makeup window. Sniffles/allergies do not count. Taking the makeup exam will be left to the discretion of the AP Coordinator at that particular high school. If something is already on the calendar like a wedding/surgery, contact the AP Coordinator immediately. If something comes up day of test, like car accident or projectile vomiting, contact your school's AP Coordinator.

Note for those who may not be aware: The AP Exam schedule comes out very early in the school year. If there is a major family wedding in May, you can start the conversation with the AP coordinator early.

That would be fine except when the school changes the Alt Exam days close to the exam dates.

No one at the school changes the exam date. Both regular administration and late administration dates are on the College Board website. They used to be listed two years in advance, but parents and students got too confused, so now they wait until one administration is over to release the dates for the following year (which are always during the same time period in May.) I seriously doubt that you have a major family wedding during the middle of the week during AP season. But here is the schedule for late administrations: https://apcentral.collegeboard.org/exam-administration-ordering-scores/exam-dates/late-testing-dates

During the covid year there were a lot of kids taking the APs in the makeup dates because anyone with a fever was staying home. Also most of the IB kids have to use the AP makeup day because of the IB exam schedule.

IB exams, in the other hand, have no makeup date at all. Kids were taking them with full blown Covid because of it. It’s the dumbest policy.
