We do it by event and what's going on the next day. |
What’s wow. My kid also went to Bar/Bat Mitzvahs until midnight or after in middle school. And they are 16 with a midnight curfew. Most high schoolers don’t even leave to go out until 8pm on Fridays since they have sports practice until 6:30. What time is your kid’s curfew? |
we go with driving curfew of midnight. 17 yr old high school junior. |
We have a basic 12 ish rule but as senior year has gone on it’s gotten closer to 12:30 or sometimes 1. He needs to text when he gets home. He’s also the one frequently driving people who are too X home so I give him leeway for that. |
Midnight once they enter high school |
When I was 15 I would happily work until 9pm, then (change my shirt in a storage closet) go walk half a mile to meet my friends at someone's house, then around 11 we'd walk as a group to a diner to get fries and hang out. My dad would pick up at midnight or 12:30am and drive a friend or two home before taking me home. |
17yo Senior in HS. Generally a 10pm-be-home on a school night. Midnight as a hard rule on non-school nights because of the driving curfew.
That said, prom was a week ago and curfew was neither set nor asked about. DC was home by 1130. Still had a great time! |
What? your kids were out until midnight at age 15 and you didn't know where they were? |
I also think it's shocking. Most kids we know need to be home much earlier unless they tell parents. It's more on a case by case basis but a blanket midnight curfew is unheard of among DC's friends and yes they are really social kids. |
What is your curfew then? Because you keep chiming in here with the same opinion but say nothing else |
I’m another who sets it by event. If my kid is gojng to be at a friends house late, they will stay over. There’s a few friends she does this with. Mine is home by 11 most weekend nights and rarely goes out on school nights. I think if I had a kid who pushed more, I would set a more standard limit. |
Most kids we know have iPhone phone tracking with parents so they know where they are. Also there’s a big difference between 14/15 and 16/17 when kids are driving bc they aren’t needing to be picked up (which usually is the reason for an earlier curfew - parents wanting to get to bed) |
What are they doing until 11 on weekdays? Mine are in activities until 10 and most of their friends are doing activities or homework and don't have time for hanging out. |
Reading comprehension sweetie |
NP and none of that sounds outrageous since the parent knows where they are. We don’t have blanket curfews and my kids were out like this. My oldest actually needs to be home much earlier now at 16 if he’s in the car with a friend driving. For us, it depends on who’s driving. All of the above is fine if parents are driving. If it’s another teen we’ve wanted him home around 9pm. We still are not comfortable with teen new drivers later at night. |
