Yes, my first thought was that he has a severe deficiency in people paying attention to him

How would getting baptized increase his fan base? That doesn't track.

If the goal is to rehabilitate his gross image (wasn't he me too'd?), then announcing he's gone sober and doing a tour about how his excesses are behind him would have accomplished the same thing. Or, you know, actually apologizing to the women he assaulted.

Getting baptized is a step farther and not really necessary. So who knows, I don't think of him as a sincere guy, but maybe this is.

He is going all in on the crazy right-wingers. Where else can you go after all the rape accusations? The last refuge of a scoundrel.

Enjoy him, Christians.

He's been sober and clean for over a decade. He's been accused of rape by several women. I feel bad for his wife - I believe this all came out while she was pregnant with their third child.

Yeah, I don’t believe anything he says. He’s a total fraud. He’s not funny and he’s physically repulsive. He needs to leave public life, but he won’t. He an attention whore and will do anything for it.

I don’t know if Brand is sincere, no one does. I know Jesus associated himself with people who were known as sinners, people society did not accept and actively rejected.

Are we taking the view that people who sin are forever doomed to their sin? Jesus did not.

Jesus preached forgiveness and redemption through Him. Some Christians devote themselves to prison ministry. They go into prisons, jails, and correctional facilities and minster to prisoners and guards, and their families, in these brutal environments. Places that are not a refuge, but where people are sent when society has no other place for them to exist. The criminal justice system is where people go when they have been deemed too dangerous to society and must be separated from society for their crimes.

Saying that people who are guilty of committing crimes are beyond redemption is stark and hopeless. Living in a world without hope is perhaps acceptable to many, but some people choose to believe in redemption.

If Brand is guilty of the crimes he is accused of, I hope he is punished. I don’t hold out much hope for that outcome as Harvey Weinstein just had his conviction overturned and is a free man.

Christians by definition will always hope a person who admits they are a sinner will take the offer of Christ and find a new life in Him. Christians do not have the power to judge whether that person is sincere; but know Christ does.

I don’t know a thing about Brand other than he was a total jerk to Katy Perry. I looked at his wiki page and read this:

When Brand was 8, his mother was diagnosed with uterine cancer and then breast cancer one year later. While she underwent treatment, Brand lived with relatives. When he was 14, he developed bulimia nervosa. At age 16, Brand left home because of disagreements with his mother's partner. He then started to use illegal drugs such as cannabis, amphetamines, LSD, and ecstasy.[16] Brand says he had a "strange relationship" with his father, whom he saw sporadically and who took him to visit prostitutes during a trip to Thailand when Brand was a teenager.[14][17]
He made his theatrical debut at the age of 15 in a school production of Bugsy Malone, and then began work as a film extra. Brand attended Grays School and in 1991, he was accepted to the Italia Conti Academy,[18] and had his first year of tuition funded by Essex County Council. After his first year at Italia Conti Academy, Brand was expelled for illegal drug use and poor attendance.[19][20] Brand has said that he was sexually abused by a tutor.[21]

https://www.theguardian.com/culture/2017/sep/02/russell-brand-needy-person-less-mad-now

He claimed in 2013 gave an interview and said at age 7 he was sexually abused by an adult tutor.

“Born in Essex, Brand’s parents separated when he was only six months old, marking the commencement of a rough childhood. At age seven, he was sexually abused by his tutor, and the following year his mother – whom he was obsessed with – contracted uterine and breast cancer. While she undertook treatment with the support of a new boyfriend who Brand hated, he went to live with relatives.

His formative years were awkward and uncomfortable, made worse by his ADHD and bipolar disorder. Brand’s father had a habit of making him watch porn when he came by to visit on the weekends, while in the other room he had sex with unknown women. When Brand was 16, his father took him to Thailand, where he immediately hired three prostitutes: two for him, one for his son.”

Yes, Brand is gross, had gross things done to him, and is accused of doing gross things to other people.

Yeah but like…”doing mescaline in a yurt” spiritual.

Wow I didn’t know all these stories about him. So sad!!! Makes me want to hug my sweet children tighter. I’m sorry this happened to him but as a Christian can we just get some that didn’t pack all the sin in already and a few that don’t need SO MUCH redeeming? Just happy that Islam got to have Andrew Tate, Yeesh.

I didn’t know these things about him either. It’s awful. I don’t think it excuses anything he may have done to hurt others; he should be subject to punishment for his crimes should he be found guilty. That’s not up for debate.

I don’t think Christians have the right to gatekeep Christianity. It’s not up to Christians to decide who deserves redemption. We can’t know who is genuine and who is not. That’s up to God. Ideally as Christians we should hope that any other human who expresses repentance and a desire to change their life be able to legitimately do so.

Jesus gave us many parables to illustrate His attitude towards people who sin and seek redemption in Him.

The Parable of the Lost Sheep

15 Now the tax collectors and sinners were all gathering around to hear Jesus. 2 But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law muttered, “This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.”

3 Then Jesus told them this parable: 4 “Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Doesn’t he leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? 5 And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders 6 and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.’ 7 I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.

So I get it: people suck and do bad stuff. I am well aware. Jesus came to redeem us all, not just nice people who follow the rules and are not gross. Gross people need redemption too.

I agree we can’t know the sincerity of converts. Tate does seem to be negatively influencing Muslim men, much to the dismay of other Muslims. I doubt Brand could have quite this impact on other Christians.

So weird Tate is a Muslim convert. And that Muslims are being influenced by him. When I lived in the Middle East I did see things about men who were very religious that were extremely troubling and in stark opposition to what Islam claims to espouse.

If Brand is seeking attention, he will get it. If he wants to be reborn in Christ, perhaps it’s genuine. It’s something he must work at because there’s no shortcut to salvation nor is it just a few words and a baptismal ceremony and all is better forever the end. Hopefully his journey will bring him peace. He has 3 kids and really needs to be a better father than his father was to him.

I too hope this helps Brand turn things around, be a better father, and respect women. He's a rapist and he's been a generally gross person, but I wasn't aware of his history. Maybe he's sincere, maybe he isn't, and we can't know.
