I appreciate the service at the GAR restaurants but I’m so bored of the menus at this point.

+1! Their menus are so boring and similar to each other.

OP, what type of food do you like? What area? There are so many restaurants in northern Virginia - it would be helpful to have more information to make useful recommendations.

Fava Pot and Original Pancake House in Falls Church are both favorites of ours. I also really love Chuy’s, it’s solid Tex Mex. We used to eat it when we lived in Austin and then it became a nationwide chain and came here. If you’re further west, Magnolia’s in Purcellville and Tuscarora Mill in Leesburg are good. We like Fireworks Pizza in Leesburg as well. Sweetwater Tavern is ok- nothing special but a solid meal and the Ozzie rolls are heavenly.

I've gorged myself on those rolls and ordered firecracker shrimp that has been a "special" appetizer for like ten years and the field greens salad and for an entree the the hickory grilled fish or the roast/brick chicken or the prime rib for years. Bored to death of it.

That is a very long drive for us but we consider it worth it.

So, so good. The koshary bowl might get my vote for the best comfort food ever. You can order it with chicken, kofta, or falafel, but I don't think it needs it.

Agree, that’s what I always get! My husband says their lamb chops are the best he’s ever had; when he told the owner this she said they marinate them in pomegranate molasses for 2 days. A truly great spot.

A lot of good mentions on this thread already. Royal Nepal in Alexandria and El Paso in Ballston are regular stops for us. And I know it’s a chain but I’m a big fan of Seasons 52.
