This clinic no longer exists. I was an earlier poster who discussed the electrolytes, etc. We took our son to the headache/pain clinic when it was a group treatment program (neurology & behavioral health/psychology) and we saw 2 wonderful providers. Dr. Mark DiSabella and Dr. Angela Fletcher - one was neurologist and the other was a psychologist but honestly i'm forgetting who was who because they were both excellent. I just sent my friend there recently but she told me the clinic closed -something to do with funding. I would imagine the doctors are someowhere in the area.

Did the pain clinic close or the headache clinic?

We just had a neurology appointment at Childrens with a non-specialist neurologist who was able to dx migraines and rule out anything like a tumor, but I left confused about how often to use Advil.

We also got a prescription for a triptan - no discussion of antihistamines or antidepressants. But my kid’s headaches don’t appear to be horribly painful, just frequent. He’s pretty stoic though so not sure how bad the pain is.

Most neurologists can do the basics but there are so many treatments but many are not approved for kids. For 10-12+ a month they should be on a preventative. The pain can be horrific. Antidepressant is often used as a preventative.

Still listed but outdated. my daughter saw Dr. Langdon & Dr. Fletcher -both were great. She started with DiSabella at the downtown hospital, then transitioned too NOVA location which is Pediatric Specialists of NOVA. Dr. DiSabella doesn't see headache patients downtown anymore, Dr. Fletcher left Children's and now Dr. Langdon is leaving Childrens/PSV. I don't know what we're going to do or who we'll transfer care to. Dr. Fletcher is now in the private sector. I found her online www.novaps.org

Go to Magnificent Minds for a workup. She put my kid on daily riboflavin, which is a blood vessel stabilizer. It totally worked.

DP - antidepressants are used at a very low dose. Not sure what kind of Magnesium was recommended for the OP’s child, but note that different types will work differently with each person, so if the active ingredients you are using don’t work, don’t give up on them and try other formulations.

Yes, antihistamines are a known treatment for people needing to increase their appetite (due to illness or other reasons).

Any potential sleep issues? For me, undiagnosed/untreated narcolepsy was the source of daily migraines which cleared up with treatment. Everyone thought I slept a lot because I always had headaches but it turned out messed up sleep was causing the headaches. Not the most likely cause but wanted to put it out there in case it resonates.

There is no one reason for migraines so OP child need a full work up, blood testing, an MRI for rule out and try preventatives and abortive to figure it out via a neurologist who specializes in migraines.
