Lighting design for screened porch

We have recessed lights on dimmers and I use them every single day. I would never build a porch w/o them (old porch had only 1 outdoor sconce and fan light and it wasn’t enough).

If you plan to string cafe lights, I would also recommend sockets above door height (in addition to 1-2 regular height sockets).

Good to know, thanks!

We put in lots of outlets and have lamps vs overhead lighting. I like it to be cozy at night when I'm reading on the porch.

We have a big back porch with recessed lighting, two hanging fixtures and a ceiling fan with a light. The only lights we use regularly are the hanging lights. The light is much nicer than the recessed lighting, even dimmed, and if I had it to do over again, I wouldn’t have bothered with the recessed lighting. I’m not sure sconces alone would be enough, depending on the size of the porch, but we have a front porch that has floor lamps and they create a wonderful ambience, so I’d do that if I didn’t have room for hanging fixtures.

Recessed lights on dimmers, and best find ever, floor lamps from Costco that get USB charged, and dont need to be charged very often!

What do you mean by hanging lights? Like 2 pendants?
