Try and focus on finding out why the kid hates school so much. That is usually the root cause of school refusal and can direct you to how to help.

This is the thing to focus on first!

Since it is high school will your junior go to school later in the school day? At 10, at 11, at 12 or not at all? Is there any class at all that your junior will go to?

We had the school agree to no class 1st or 2nd period so he didn't have to show up to school until around 10 or 10:30. He then took a class online that we paid for (Florida virtual school). We were considering an online community college class that would count for high school credit but didn't want to risk the grade being permanent on his college transcript if he didn't do well or decided not to finish the class.

My adhd kid can't sleep unless he gets both lots of outside time and cardio/aerobic exercise. Still takes magnesium and melatonin to get to sleep.

Does he hate school or hate mornings?

My kid has school refusal because she is overwhelmed with the school environment and the work. She has ADHD, anxiety, depression with suicidal ideation. She is very bright.
I've had to get over the idea that this is something that is an easy fix.
We are working to get her into at least 2 virtual classes next year to limit the amount of time she has to be on campus. Then we will move on to virtual school if we need to.
