I’m sorry OP. One one level, we all know these are low probability options. Hence the term “reach.” But doesn’t make rejection sting any less. Hang in there and I hope your kid gets excited about one of their safeties… or that something pans out of all the waitlists. |
what are the options they have?
can you give names or at least relative ranks? This is really helpful for those of us at similar privates. |
+1 Ivy League schools are a random lottery. Saying that a student has "as good a chance as anyone" is misleading. |
Right, their "as good a chance" = almost none. |
This whole process is hard and it’s a game/lottery/crap shoot but still hardso sympathy for sure. Would definitely talk to counselor re waitlist. Also I hear of kids all the time who transfer into some of these places 2”- which can be easier. |
I'm sorry OP. Good luck to your DC. It's hard to see your kid disappointed. For what it's worth, we also struggled with figuring out targets. Safeties and reaches are pretty easy to identify. Those target schools though, whew! |
I think waitlists may move more than usual this year due to the disaster that is FAFSA. |
April Fools! OP clearly you were hoking becausein fact your DS IS going to college as he WAS accepted at two places. |
Joking sorry lol bad typing |
My talented, brilliant, high achieving DS only got into his safeties last year. We visited them and he picked the one that he liked the best. I was disappointed with his options, but he is having a great freshman year and his safety is a good match for him.
I know that because he is talented and brilliant and high achieving, he will be fine in the long run. It's more important that he get a college education and do well than get into any particular program. I went to a no name school and am doing quite well. He will also do quite well in the long run. |
That’s why they are reaches, but that doesn’t make the disappointment less. Try to get all of you excited about the targets/safeties that were acceptances. Disappointment is understandable but no need to stress. |
If you don't understand how hard this is then you are lucky to have never been in this situation. Unfortunately, too many people place status on admission to these reach schools. We accept that admission is a bit of a lottery while simultaneously celebrating admission ultimate achievement. |
OP is absurd.
Her kid went to a Private school. She did not do her homework. Instead she wasted money on private got choices for her kid that were below what she wanted and ranted. Again did not do her homework. This result is not a surprise at all. |
If the schools he got into are not exciting for him, how about taking a year off and then reapplying? |
No one has a good chance at the ivys. What a strange thought. Sure, he had as good a chance as anyone which is no chance. Enjoy the safeties. I am sure they are lovely. Feel free to post them here and probably many kids have them as reaches. |
