Yes. TM imploded from top to bottom. Arrogant owner, arrogant and ineffective coaches and us many parents (myself included) wised up. And above poster dissing on Donnellan has no idea what he/she is talking about. He was the only thing TM had going for it. TM’s loss for sure. WLC is lucky to have him.

Maybe at the younger levels, but the U18 team made it to Nationals this year. At least from a competitive standpoint, I'd hardly call that imploding.

-Former WLC parent who is definitely not a huge fan of TM

Yes. U18 did well. I will clarify. I’m talking U14 and down. 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011 all predictably imploded for various reasons. Ineffective and arrogant coaching, increased fees for less ice time, broken off ice program as an excuse to grab increased fees, and no high school hockey rule. It became obvious that TM could care less about the success or development of its younger teams and just a money grab to fund its Juniors program that 99.9 percent of TM players will not be selected for.

Where did the kids from these teams go? Are they now playing AA?

DP.

I know a few went to Junior Flyers, a few to Little Caps. But I don’t know what the typical movement between these clubs was in previous years to compare to.

TM18 had billets and was only 50s in the rankings. SE District was a joke and TM went winless at Nationals. WLC was so bad they had Ashburn 2 kids on team. Tier 1 is a joke around here. TM's solution is to double down on billets. Total crap given owner's kid played for St Alban's and really didn't do much against the strong MAPHL teams.

WLC not playing in top divisions for many age groups. Might as well play AA.

Agree and I have a Tier 1 player who, like many, will have to go away if he what’s to continue playing at Tier 1 level. The real problem is having 2 tier 1 programs in the DMV. There simply aren’t enough competitive players in this area to make two competitive teams. That leaves the top players either stuck moving away or weekend model or playing on one of these Tier 1 teams where only about 5-6 players on each are true AAA players. Very frustrating but both programs know they can sell the dream to the bottom half who can pretend they are true tier 1 players. And who cares what the rankings are as long as they sell the slots year after year.

I don’t know anything about the options for divisions. But my son is looking to try out for WLC next year. He’s a 2011. Could you give me a quick lesson on the devisions and how to compare them?

Just look at the AYHL site. Elite is the lower level. Complete waste of time at older ages and you're talking about $15k investment if you include travel. The AYHL has fallen off due to Murry Gunty making teams play THF, which may not be a bad thing. Showcase model probably better than traveling 4-6 hours for two league games no one cares about. DMV T1 does a bad job developing players too. Lots of PW and BA T1 players that were terrible midgets. Current Reston and Ashburn top coaches at 16s and 18s are better than the T1 coaches. Don't know about MYHA but the Landon coach is pretty good and he often coaches a team at MYHA too.

Who is that? I’m genuinely curious and not being snarky? Where did he/she come from and why TM?

You know, I am really surprised that more people do not seem to be aware of said owner’s track record in wider business matters which made me not want to go anywhere near anything that he’s involved in.
My kid isn’t AAA material so that makes it easier to avoid that whole scene, but that person does have his tentacles nearly everywhere around here that relates to hockey.

For the aa-b coed and girls divisions I think it’s been largely positive. The aghf/ahf leagues are more organized, gamesheet is good, and they are trying to get rid of coaches gaming the myhockeyrankings system. If only he could get rid of instant offsides! With one organization owning the leagues, teams, and rinks, it is approaching monopoly status though.

Was TM just purchased by another entity? What's the effect of that?
