Learned our lesson about going out on Valentines Day

Yes, it's why we stopped going out to eat in holidays. Usually overcrowded, more expensive than usual, the food is worse, and the staff are exhausted.

Everybody has to learn this lesson on their own. All of those holidays are scams and going out on those holidays is always a Bad idea.

Haven't experienced this, but sometimes service has been poor due to crowds.

Why won't the OP name the restaurant? That's weird.

You absolutely should have known better, in the service industry, we called days like Valentine's Day (and other holidays) "amateur night" because it was full of bad tippers who never went out to eat and were just a general pain in the butt. Hence the prix fixe menus and bad cuts of steak, LOL.

Valentine's Day does tend to be a sh!t show in local places, but because the staff is overwhelmed -- not because it is a regular thing to hand people a salad of iceberg lettuce, bagged crouton, and dried-out shredded carrot.

That shredded carrot in a salad is the kiss of death, nothing good will follow.

We never go out on Valentine’s Day any more. It’s so crowded, Service is poor and the pre-fixe menus are so pricey. We stay home and make steak, crab cakes and a fancy chocolate dessert. Much more relaxing.

Well aren't you all a fun bunch. Jeesh!

She couldn't even name the low-brow salad green- we know it's iceberg lettuce!

Go the day before or after but never the same day except if they don’t have special pricing.

More like go out the week before or after. Here’s another pro tip also avoid spas on Vday and Mothers Day. Amateur hour.
