There is a direct flight on AA from DCA leaves around 8:00 pm. The direct back to DCA leaves around 7:00 am. The tally airport is small, so no need to get there early. |
Can confirm. I’m at DCA waiting for the 8:37 flight to Tally right now. |
That's good to know! |
What stats to get into FSU? |
Never heard this and I live in Gainesville. |
Go on to the FSU admissions Instagram page- the most recent stats are posted. |
Until you get stuck in security lines. The airport IS small but the security line can back up. |
I’m a Floridian, plenty of friends and family went to UF, FSU, and UCF - and that’s the order I’d put them in preference wise. UF has the best reputation and imo is the best college town, followed by FSU. UCF was a commuter school for forever and is in a weird pocket east of Orlando. The school is huge now so I’m sure the area is built up, but it used to feel like the middle of nowhere. Re clubs, I think the challenge of getting into some clubs exists at most large schools these days. |
What is the reputation of UCF today? It seems very popular in Florida these days? |
Go Gators!!

I think it’s fine, within Florida. When I was in high school more people preferred USF in Tampa, but UCF is now bigger than USF and doesn’t have the same commuter school reputation. I’d be very curious to see how the campus has improved. The Florida Bright Futures Scholarship keeps so many more strong students in-state and they can’t all get into UF or FSU. |
Florida also mandates that far left teaching like ivies are not allowed so if you are a liberal you might want to go away |
I’ve never been there, but a few years ago my kid (female Hispanic accounting major) got an out of state tuition waiver & a $1500/year scholarship with a 29 ACT & a 3.9 unweighted. The amount of aid was surprisingly large, especially because they don’t really need to import Hispanics from other states. Kid went elsewhere.
I think one underrated feature of colleges is how compact they are. At some of these sprawling campuses you can waste a lot of time just getting to class. FSU seems to have one of the most compact campuses among huge universities. Sometimes acreage can be deceiving, but FSU’s campus is listed at around 500 acres, compared to 2000 acres at UF. Maybe someone who is familiar with both campuses could verify if the campuses are as different as their acreage indicates. |
Wow- they definitely increased the standards since the time your friend apokied for the waiver. Now you need a 1420/32 and 4.0 to be considered. Also- no stipend. I did notice that some Florida schools are downgrading their merit- at least for OOS. UCF got rid of their Knights of Achievement - which was supposed to give the full OOS tuition waiver. These schools are becoming so popular and selective with OOS that they no longer need to give as much money. Kind of Clemson - they used to give around $22k for OOS- but now give around $13k. |
FSU is where the folks who could not get into UF go. However, I wouldn’t let any of my children go to any FL school until DeSantis is kicked out of office. |
