What are these divided plates for?

There wouldn’t necessarily be enough table space, so you’d balance your little plate/tray on your knees. By custom it was a lighter meal so they’re not huge. Some of them even have a little round space where you’d put your cup.

I use them for parties if we serve light appetizers. They can be held easily while standing and chatting and that little round place for the cup works for a stemless wine glass or a small plastic cup if you're using those.

I remember those! My mom used them for her church Ladies Circle, she also was part of a sewing circle (early 1960s)--hers were rectangular glass plates with decorative glass rim and coffee cups that sat in one of the compartments. They still show up in thrift stores now and again. Back in the days when ladies also had dressy aprons to wear once the party started and they were hostessing.

I have these and use them all the time. Great for entertaining or just for me, working from home, making little snacks every couple hours instead of committing to a full meal lol.
