Reusing daily contact lenses

The daily disposables are made of far less robust material than other types. The edges degrade—you will be able to see that they become ragged and it will hurt like you’re putting cornflakes in your eyes.

I’d plan to wear glasses if you need them.

This. This is also maybe why there is a risk of infection (because the contacts can cause little tears that can then cause a ferocious infection.).

Don't do it. Just wear glasses. (I've been a dailies person for more than a decade and I've never reused. Not worth it.)

I’d recommend that you learn to just make do with your glasses. I can no longer wear contacts, and it’s a nuisance at times but doable.

It’s a bit hard to swim and go on a boat while wearing glasses and I am literally blind without them.

I don’t understand why dailies are more likely to cause ingestion vs monthlies which I used to wear and simply cleaned with solution.

You aren't supposed to reuse contacts you swim in. Swimming is a major risk for introducing bacteria.

Pretty sure someone did. It’s just not worth the risk op. Just because someone did it and it was fine, doesn’t decrease your own risk of infection or complications.

I use dailies like they’re weeklies, and have for many years. Never a problem.

Same here. I'll add that if they ever get uncomfortable, I toss them.

Correction, I don't put them in saline solution I put them in multi-purpose solution for soft contact lenses. If you handle them with care and clean them when not wearing them by soaking in this stuff dailies will last at least a few days and often a week or two.

Have done this so many times with no ill effect.

Former ophthalmology nurse here (oncology now). You've never seen a nasty azz eye infection that threatens blindness from a contact. No way would I do it

A friend who wore contacts improperly had a corneal ulcer that required hospitalization

The majority of eye infections I've seen were caused by poor hygiene.

A million times it you really shouldn’t.

One of my eye doctors encouraged this to save money. I did not do it - but would try it if desperate.

I would disinfect.

I do not believe there are "nasty ass eye infections" from wearing dailies for a few days. There may be eye infections from contacts but not from that.

Just make sure you clean them with daily contact cleaner and soak them in saline overnight.
