What is a swim off?

I feel like making kids swim off for 200 fly is just cruel.

They could have agreed to do a different length.

Or a different stroke!

But, I have no idea what my kid would do in this situation. Their 200 fly is significantly better than 100 fly, same with free. Kid really is a mid-distance swimmer 200/400/500. So I’m sure they wouldn’t agree to a 50 and probably not a 100 either in a swim-off situation.
