Be careful with tightlining. You're essentially blocking your oil producing glands which are responsible for keeping your eyes from becoming dry. |
I'm 50, also with smallish hazel eyes and glasses.
I use a chubby shadow stick vs liner and it looks much nicer than liner does on my eyes at this age. I like a light coat of mascara like Glossier in brown vs anything too dark or thick. I don't coat my bottom lashes because my they are freakishly long and look insane when coated; I also think it helps open my eyes up a bit to keep the bottom lash line clean and under eye area well moisturized. |
I don't have hooded eyes but do the exact same thing with clinique brown liquid liner. |
Which brand for the dusty rose or bronze liner? |
I’m jealous of people who can tightline. I’d have nonstop styles from irritating my meibomian glands. |
I don’t get tightlining. I tried it once, against every fiber of my being that screamed, “don’t touch that prt of your eye,” and all it did was make my eyes look smaller. Any tips?? |
You need to figure out what color makes your eyes pop. I have dark brown eyes, and I find that unless I add something in the blue/silver family somewhere in the eye look (doesn’t have to be screaming turquoise all over the lid), my eyes just look tired and small. I use brown or navy mascara, and always put something bright in the inner corner. I find that the drill for any eyeshadow look is to only use the dark part in the outer corner and a little into the crease, and something lighter with some shimmer (not sparkle or glitter) in the center. When I want one and done, I sometimes just brush some glowy highlighter across the lid in a good tone for me, as some non-black mascara, and I’m done. |
can you link some of the products/colors you use? i have very dark eyes (hooded) too and need a new color palate. |
I use this one for travel https://viseartparis.com/collections/all-products/products/petits-four-lapis This one for when blue isn’t right - https://colourpop.com/collections/best-of-colourpop/products/blowin-smoke-eyeshadow-palette It’s better than any of the expensive brands black/white/silver palettes To be honest, Colourpop shadows are really good quality for less money - just don’t put the pressed glitter shadow in each palette anywhere near your eyes. They change up their colors all the time, so if the colors appeal, pick one up. This one for everyday looks (wait for sale) https://www.patmcgrath.com/products/mothership-i-subliminal |
Same. Tightlining does not look good on me. It also makes my eyes look smaller. |
I’m 55 and have hooded eyes. A few things have worked for me.
Tight lining with a waterproof eyeliner Using brown liquid liner and not dragging it, but tapping the line instead Creating a soft wing… this really helps the most Also make sure your eyebrow isn’t pointing down at the far edge. This really drags your eyes down If you add eyeshadow, place it above the crease |
I’m in my 40s with hooded eyes.
The thing that works for me is putting more focus on my lashes. I get extensions biweekly - just single lashes and not very long, nothing dramatic! - and the thickness and color at the lash line really define my eyes. It’s expensive but I love not using any eye makeup daily. My entire makeup routine can now be done in less than 2 min - tinted moisturizer, blush, occasional concealer or eyebrow powder. Lips get a swipe of tinted balm I keep in my purse. |
45YO here. I was mistaken for "around 30" yesterday I use the Loreal Infallible eyeliner starting the line as small as I can get right above my pupil and dragging it to the outside of my eye, making the line wider as I go. This particular eyeliner has a nice wedge-shaped silicone eraser type thing that makes it super easy and quick to blend. It's also the only eyeliner I have found that stays perfect all day. |
I find it’s way easier to tightline with liquid liner than pencil. |
Have you tried Lashify? It may be less expensive than getting them done at a salon every two weeks. I actually haven’t tried them because I’m too lazy to deal with any fake lashes but I did research the best options and this seemed like a good one. |
