Requires test scores. Requires interviews. And little aid.

That’s more respectful than TO and being a finishing school

Georgetown holding out on test scores is a breath of fresh air

What holds back gtown is the facilities and endowment

I know this pp. So salty that BC is (still) top 40.

No, Pomona is one of the most socioeconomically diverse LACs.

+1 these are all schools I would list specifically as NOT "rich kid" schools...at least relative to other top LACs/universities.

Yes. The Jesuits give the $ away, to help society. Not a bad thing at all.

But, the application process is no joke there. Interview required. Test scores required (all of them taken). They used to have SAT subject tests, now take into account AP exam scores.

Merit -based used to be the norm for college acceptances. Now it's a novelty.

Your attitude is pretty condescending for someone that includes Washington university St. Louis and wake forest as top academic schools.

And YOU don't know much about quality colleges do you.

These are super woke. Haverford and Pomona still require the vaccine (tho Carleton no longer does)

do they actually? DS goes to a school that theoretically requires it but he didn't get it and there was no follow up

All close to $90K and almost no merit aid. You're either poor or you have (and are willing to spend) $400K for undergrad.

University of Chicago is quite socioeconomically diverse, relative to other T50 private schools.

I think people really underestimate how generous the financial aid is at some of these schools! We are no where near poor - HHI of $160-180k depending on bonuses - and received enough financial aid from U Chicago to make it price comparable to our state school (Maryland).

UMiami (which has tumbled from its Donna Shalala high point of #50) gives substantial merit aid.

Duke. everyone i know who went there comes from parents who are truly loaded, and they were also pretty smart kids.

this is the most eye-opening, useful thing I've learned on the forums recently. Our HHI is about the same ($160-180 depending on the year), we have two kids in elementary, and all of a sudden I feel much less stressed about the future.

Did your kid apply ED? I keep hearing Chicago doesn't take DMV kids.

Except your kid has to get into Chicago. Easier said than done. Make sure you throw out the screens, have them reading and doing math 3-5 hrs a day, learning a third language, truly developing as a top scholar, etc. Or be good enough to be a sport recruit (also really hard depending on your genetic makeup).

Or have a high IQ so school is quick and easy (can be hard depending on genetic makeup).
