I do have mug preferences - I prefer mine to be thicker and squatter to an oversized kind, for example - but what elevates a mug into “favorites” catagory for me is when it has some history, like it was picked up on a memorable vacation, or a loved one gave it to me for reason xyz.

I’m puzzled about how a mug can cost $81 dollars, and fascinated that its manufacturer describes it this way:

This large capacity cup is the perfect vessel for tea, coffee, hot chocolate or even soup. It can be safely carried from room to room. Also perfect at the office.

For travel my Yeti rambler
For home, I have a few of the destination mugs that Starbucks used to sell - they are oversized enough to get me the right amount of caffeine in the AM.

I honestly love the Starbucks souvenir coffee mugs. Yeah, I don't care if they're tacky or whatever, they're the perfect sized cup for coffee. Perfect thickbess too for the ceramic that doesn't make the cup too hot to handle. Perfect material too so they when you microwave a cup of coffee in it, it isnt too hot to handle.

I also love a coffee mug made out of Celadon we bought in Thailand. Beautiful pattern. Fantastic material.

My travel mug that has Ruth Bader Ginsburg on it! She was a badass.

Hand thrown mug with a thumb indentation at the top of the handle that makes it easy to hold your cup in the perfect position. It’s also really beautiful. Coffee cups and wine glasses are meant to enhance the experience.

+1- I would surely break it within a week.
My favorite is an oversized mug from Target that has my initial on it- but I select a different mug each morning based on who I want to think about that day (kids college mugs, gifts, travel mugs...)

Even if you don't like the design, the mug itself is awesome. Perfect size and heft. Very sturdy.

It is porcelain and not easily breakable; you can drop it on the floor with force and have it stay intact, so maybe that's what they mean by carrying it from room to room. It is beautiful to look at and like a work of art - maybe that's how they are justifying it.
