Don't take it out on the server. Ask to speak the manager and complain. Then, don't eat there again.
But please still tip your server. |

5% RESTAURANT RECOVERY CHARGE: While there are many ways society is rebuilding itself post-pandemic, there continues to be devastating and long-lasting impacts on the full-service restaurant industry. Our recovery charge was created so that we can continue to operate as a viable business, employer, and neighbor. The charge helps cover pandemic-related losses and debts; vaccines, boosters, and mental health services for our team members and their families; as well as our ongoing community efforts. We appreciate your continued support by dining in our restaurants. To learn more specifics about this charge, please see A Message to Our Guests. These are straight up LIES. Why haven’t they been called out about this? They did not pay for vaccines or boosters. They were free through the government or through insurance. What they are are thieves. People pay it without questioning because they don’t want to seem like the bad guy, but what restaurants are doing is not right. |
No. It’s ridiculous to pay 15-20% in fees before providing a tip. Servers can chose to work in restaurants that don’t have fees if they want to work in an industry that relies on tips for compensation. They only way to change this behavior is for both patrons and servers to abandon these restaurants. |
| I will not go to a restaurant that charges a recovery fee who got huge amounts of federal money as well. |
I will not eat at them as it's absurd and they got tons of federal, state, and local money to cover those costs. Vaccines and boosters were free for everyone. |
| Big question: Do you tip on the recovery fee? |
Chumps do. |
| If they simply raised their prices 10-15%, they’d get a lot less pushback. |
When I sit down, I expect to pay menu price plus tax, plus 20%. That's what I'm paying. If the restaurant has surprise fees, then it's coming out of the tip. |
What if the fee is advertised on the menu when you sit down? |
| No. |
If I’ve already sat down, I’ll pay the fee and deduct it from the tip. |
They should pay you for a recovery fee for you to recover your taste buds after you eat that garbage. |
I would do the same. Advertised or not, I’m not paying a service charge and a tip. |
