We don't. Our kids go to state schools or ones we can afford. Simple. |
Which schools require 4 years on campus?! Kids can commute from cheaper places. Smart families figure it out. |
Supply and demand. There are a lot of rich families for whom $90k is a meaningless expenditure. As long as there are enough people willing to pay, they will keep raising the price. |
40% is full pay at most elite privates. Coincidentally about 40%are ALDC at Harvard |
And unlimited Parent Plus loans. Same story for NYU. |
Parent Plus loans aren’t unlimited. The are they full-freight of your child’s college minus any financial aid you have received |
Since this is an anonymous board, I'll just share it. 83k for a high stats kid from 200k family from University of Rochester. I like the school but not for that much.
Given this, 90k for USC doesn’t shock me |
To put it in perspective, let's assume you haven't saved anything for college (yeah, yeah, most of us have since birth - don't start that thread). But if you are in the 35 percent tax bracket, you have to make almost $500K to pay $360K with after-tax dollars. |
back on point. Here's the link $90,921. https://financialaid.usc.edu/undergraduates/prospective/how-much-will-my-education-cost.html |
Northwestern follows suit: $91,859. I'm so grateful for in-state Virginia schools. https://www.collegetuitioncompare.com/edu/147767/northwestern-university/tuition/#:~:text=The%20undergraduate%20estimated%20tuition%20%26%20fees,other%20personal%20expenses%20is%20%2424%2C336. |
The amount the gov. will give toward them is unlimited. There is no numerical COA limit. If the school sets a $130k COA, PPLs will cover it. |
They don’t call it University of Spoiled Children for nothing. |
How is the endowment performing? |
Not true. DS is at NU and I write the checks. More like $81K. Housing is mandatory for two years but then the options are much cheaper off campus (or can be). The last 20k of those costs are housing and mandatory meal plan. Nobody buys books much anymore. |
Do you really have to live on campus? When I was a student you could easily get a waiver if it was too expensive. |
