2-row SUVs where an adult fits in back w/ 2 car seats?

You might look at Hyundai as well. The Santa Fe might be too tight, but I bet the Palisade can handle it.

We have a pilot and love it, but it’s 3 rows (either 7 or 8 seat configuration). We also have a CRV (not on the original list) it has two rows and a small adult can fit between the seats but it’s not comfortable and I wouldn’t recommend for longish trips (ask me how I know).

We have Clem foonfs FWIW. We got them because we are having a third and they will fit three across in the CRV.

X7 works. X5 also works if you are slim. RDX does not work even then.

We have twins. I’d switch to radian car seats bc you’ll get extra space. The seats you have are just wide.

I rode in between both today because the youngest was having a hard time during the ride and it wasn’t comfortable.

Another option is you move the oldest to the third row, but that’s only comfortable if the seat in front of them is down, otherwise it’s cramped back there.

I recently rode in a Volvo XC-90 with captain seats in middle row, the second and 3rd row appeared to be comfortable to the people riding in the back

We have the Volvo XC-90 with the 6 seat configuration described and we LOVE it. In just a few years you will be thinking about carpooling for sports etc and that third row(that is actually comfortable) is amazing. We got the plugin hybrid so it’s not quite so terrible for the environment. I was very worried about moving to a bigger car with a third row but I’m very happy with our choice as a compromise.

I found this site helpful when we bought our two row suv (2019 Forester). It’s worth noting that configurations can change depending on the model year, because location of seatbelts can change. (I realize you are looking for two car seats and an adult, but the 3 across info is helpful because it can tell you which cars have more room/seatbelt access got the middle seat.)

We have a CRV and I can sit back there with the kids, both in Clek Foonfs (middle and on the side). I'm thin, but above average height. I've even ridden between two car seats in a CRV, though I don't advise that.

I can do this in my Honda civic with two dianos.

Great tips all! This maybe a twice a month kind of event - maybe a 20 minute drive plus return and I’m fine being sort of squeezed and uncomfortable. Just need access to seat belts on either side really.
I realize I said Acura MDX when I meant RDX. I know the former has a small third row which could work if I strike out on 2 row options. And I did mean to include the CRV as I’ve been eyeing that option too.

Getting new car seats is on the table but when I had so called narrow seats (Foonf or Funf or whatever it’s called) it was just so tall and heavy. They’re actually still sitting in a closet. Our Chiccos are quite reasonable in size and I only have the outboard cup holders installed.

Anyone who can comment on the RAV4? I rode in a colleague’s recently and I agree that it seemed quite spacious in the backseat but so hard to gauge without a car seat actually in there.

Maybe dust off your Foonf's and try again? They are tall and heavy, but narrow. We have two of them right next to each other so an adult can sit in the back as well.

I Have a RAV 4 prime.
My SIL will be visiting she is a fairly petite woman.
5’5” 130lbs. And even she will not fit in the middle seat between (2) car seats.

We are keeping the prime because it is a great car. But we are getting a telluride or EV9.

I sometimes ride between two full car seats in the back of my CRV, as do my parents. It's doable but not comfortable. (I am not particularly thin.)

It won’t be super comfortable for the adult but 2 Radians in a CRV will work. My kids liked Radians as they got older because they had better visibility compared to some other seats.
