Every student is going to the planetarium this year k-5. 5th is doing overnight at outdoor lab. Most 4th are doing Jamestown trip.

Our school is not doing Jamestown for 4th this year (didn't last year either). I haven't heard about planetarium trips but that would be nice. Kid is not in 5th or 3rd so no outdoor lab.

That sucks. It does seem like a school decision. I believe our PTA Is paying for everything this year which isn't equitable obviously. The PTAs have been advocating to the school board to get them to cover field trips.

We’re at ATS and when my son was in 4th grade we were told they didn’t do Jamestown anymore

You're literally on the bus longer than you are at Jamestown lmao

It's fascinating that APS thinks this is okay given Ovechkin's support of Putin. Should we really be busing kids to an event to celebrate someone who supports Putin and thusly what Russia is doing in Ukraine? Ugh.

Annoying
I think it's the schools closest to the ice rink, i.e., that need the least busing.

So in 4th we took our kid to Jamestown and the local area for a long weekend. It was great! But doing that in a day would be he11.
Also, I think PTA at ATS pays for field trip busses although there are very few trips.

Why don't they do Mt. Vernon? There's plenty to learn about and it's close.

FWIW, the Capitols are paying for the trip, not APS or the schools, per the information I received (kid is in 4/5 at one of the participating schools).

Just curious what school you are at? STill trying to figure out which schools were invited

People are so secretive about naming their schools on here, lol. Its anonymous and what a benign thing to share!

Yeah. It's super weird.

It’s a secret!

Contacted by ARLnow, a Washington Capitals spokesperson declined to saw which APS schools are among the five that have been invited to the event.
“We are not disclosing which schools are attending,” the spokesperson said.

I assume that means because there is something "unfair" about the schools picked. I don't care if my kids school was picked (we are S. Arlington) but it would be nice if the schools were spread throughout the county and kids who might never have a chance to go to a hockey game got to do something special.

My older kid went on a field trip to Mt Vernon in 2nd grade (& Jamestown in 4th).

These things are usually either the most poorest schools or the most connected. The fact that they won't name the schools probably means it's the most connected. Anyone who cares enough to ask the capitals can ask ACPS who has a lot less leeway to not answer.
