Naviance hack

Interesting that their profile has a range of GPAs. The profile our counselor showed doesn't have that

This works. DC found out rank.

What is the script of code to enter?

Sad.

Don’t you kind of know if your kid is taking all the top courses and has A’s vs not and getting lower grades?

Or do you think parents assume their kid is the best and this will be a reality check?

Overall yes, but I don’t have a good sense as to whether the top 30 kids in my kid’s class of 300 have A+s in 12 AP classes or As in 6 AP classes. This level of minutiae may define who is really one of the top 5 kids in the class.

Does a matter to get a 93 A or 100 A? Does the rank reflects the raw score?

Yep, and now the hack is known among the seniors around FCPS, and everyone is aware of their ranking.

It is very good info for my senior. DC ranked better than they thought.

Exactly which page in Naviance would one use inspect element to see rank (if it's in there)?

How do you find it?

That might not necessarily be hacking - I'll go look in a minute. But it is amazing what you can see when using Inspector. I'm a website developer. Could just be hidden in the code so that it only shows to people with certain access...but not hidden well enough. Either a good hacker or really crappy developer.

It's not hacking, it's terrible coding and security. The same thing happened to a Missouri state website and the governor screamed hacking https://missouriindependent.com/2022/02/23/claim-that-reporter-hacked-state-website-was-debunked-parson-still-says-hes-a-criminal/

Yeah, this is like writing a secret on the back of a sheet of paper and hoping users don’t flip it over.

I don't really see the issue. If this information exists, which apparently it does even if not released, it belongs to the taxpayers that pay for the schools and send their kids. Let students have this information if they want it.

Wonder if FCPS cybersecurity knows this has been going on for the last week?

I think you’re entitled to your information, but they are trying to not give you the information of minors that aren’t your kids, even indirectly.

Also, some parents are ruthless. See the threads about Sidwell Friends from a couple years ago.
