It would be one thing if OP simply encouraged her daughter to label important items. But she’s not; she’s doing it herself and having HER OWN information put on the items. That’s insane. Barring special needs or the kid being in preschool, that is insane. The natural consequences of losing things teach you to be more careful, and/or to label important items: THAT’S living in the real world. |

You still next to cancel her credits and debit cards and also put a credit freeze or alert.
|
| Great tip. My rising college freshman managed to lose his college I’d and drivers license. It was probably a pick pocket. |
This. |
😂 did this for my kids up to 2nd grade |
| this thread is 100% tragic |
| I have ADD but I don't lose things. I grew up poor and the consequences of losing things was so great I had to train myself to not lose things. Maybe she needs some natural consequences. Or could have from ages 3-18. This is ridiculous for a college student. And yes you need to land the helicopter--you are enabling her big time. Instead of helping her LEARN, you are giving her an excuse not to learn.! |
The DAUGHTER should cancel the credit cards. |
| And if things need to be labeled the DAUGHTER should be labeling them not the PARENT. This poor girl, how can she ever find a way to manage her life and her things? |
| Thank you, OP. I showed it to my rising college freshman and he thought that was a great idea. |
| Did you remember to put his name in his underwear- that's key |
I did the exact same thing in college. |
| I’d be impressed if they were 14. |
| I have ADHD and lost things all the time in college so I kind of get it...but also, like...we're talking about 18-19-20 year olds, right? I can only imagine the absolute roasting that would have ensued had someone my age found my iPad or debit card or phone with a big label attached to it with mommy's phone number. Sounds embarrassing. |
do pick pocketers often return the items they've stolen
