You don't think a rapidly changing climate affects farmers? |
This is not a "data point." Yeesh. It's just a factual observation that no one can really escape the heat at this time of year. |
What does the bolded mean to you? It doesn't take long to drive from DC to areas over 3000 feet. |
You're not sorry. And enough with the virtue shaming. Get over yourself. |
overall it's getting hotter everywhere so this feeling is actually real.
But I also think: a) most people have a hard time really remembering temperature, b) sometimes the heat bothers people more as they get older, and c) people often look back with rose-colored glasses so make it seem like things were better in previous times than they are currently and it's not factually true. My kids don't mind the heat at all and I didn't mind it when I was a kid either but now as an adult I do. I actually grew up in the deep South where it's even hotter and more humid than here in DC area so I know that the summers were HOT when I was a kid but I don't remember ever thinking the heat was unbearable and I don't think my parents thought that either. |
Aren’t you doing anything? |
Virtue shaming. Honey. Get off the Internet. It’s too far in you. |
Exactly. Personally, I'm looking to move to a place that has less cold winters! |
Summer here is always hot and oppressive. Always. I grew up here and hated the summer. My mom grew up in Tennessee - with no A/C - and she said it was a hot you can’t even imagine.
This is nothing new - unless you’re a recent transplant from say, Montana, etc. |
That would be just FINE with me. Bring it. |
It actually seems like we've had a lot of cloudier days this summer and more rain. The grass is greener and still growing more than it normally does by the middle of July. I'm guessing this will change by the end of the month though. |
You could also be more uncomfortable dealing w/the heat due to older age.
I notice the older I get - the tougher it becomes to endure a heat wave. San Francisco has cool summers = no humidity. Though it co$ts a ton to live there. |
Grew up here. It’s definitely getting hotter and because of all of the development we don’t have as much greenery for shade and to counter this heat. This area used to have actual work yet snow storms every year, hurricane season wasn’t as intense in the US, summers were warm but it wasn’t hot hot until mid - August beginning of September. |
Both of my kids wore reusable diapers, I would never apply pesticides anywhere, and we buy as much of our food at farmers' markets as possible, but I'm much more concerned about societal-level policies that don't do enough to discourage greenhouse gas emissions that cause climate change than I am about disposable diapers, PP. Also, chemtrails are not a thing. |
The answer to OP's question is: Yes, it is getting hotter here, year-round and especially in the summer.
