Crisp apples only (jazz, envy, rocket)
Blood oranges
Avocados (fruit ??)
Cantaloupe
Crisp red / green grapes
Bananas (very picky about ripeness. HATE overly ripe!)

OP. So you like pretty much all fruits and veggies? I love it.
I've gotten into McIntosh apples lately, but they are not always the same. So, I got McIntosh apples in Canada, and they were insane. You bite into it and there is all that red inside and the flavor is nuts. And then I bought them in NY state and they were tart and no delish red that was juicy and sweet. They tasted more like granny smiths. I wonder if someone labeled them the wrong name?

Of course, avocado is a fruit. I am thinking of growing an avocado tree inside. Dh thinks I lost my mind. I come from a family of farmers and the older I get, the more I want to grow my own food.

I love this thread! It's great to read about people eating and appreciating real food! It makes me so sad to hear people say they can't/won't eat fruit because of diabetes or OMG carbs. And the common cooking methods for vegetables are to cover them in heavy sauces or cheese. So PPs thanks for sharing a better way.

They are little crunchy pears, and they almost have a cinnamon taste? I had never heard of them, but they were very different and so good.

What's your current obsession OP?

Recipe please! Like I am five years old.

I have to force myself to eat vegetables. Now that my kid is back at college, I have gone a few days without one. I know they are so good for every single health outcome...but they bring me no pleasure, compared to protein and carbs.

You are all lucky to have the tastes you have (and I notice that many of you grew up with fresh veggies as children. We did not, perhaps due to cost?)

OP. Yes, I grew up with fresh fruit and veg. Shelling peas was a normal activity in early summer for me. DH, however, did not grow up with so many fresh fruits and veggies. He is from CO. Not sure why as his maternal grandparents were farmers when he was young. Even after we married, they had the most productive and awesome strawberry patch. I recall being there for the 4th of July celebration; that was when everyone gathered and watched the parade that went past their house.
It was a great event; everyone brought food, they churned their own ice cream! The food was good. There was a fruit salad from cans. Of course, there was fresh corn and all types of potatoes and BBQ.
So, I was there picking the strawberries and eating them. I grew up doing the same. My own grandparents had a strawberry patch. And nobody else was picking them nor eating them. DH's grandma said to take as many as you want, they will go to waste. There were over eight great-grandkids there at the time! My cousins and I would have fought a war over these strawberries, and they didn't care at all. I was young and thought nothing of it then, tbh! All I thought was: would it be weird if I showed up next weekend, so those strawberries don't rot.

I grew up middle class in Midwest. We ate a fair amount of fresh fruit. Usually as snacks though and not a part of meals. Fresh vegetables, not so much. Our vegetable consumption was pretty limited to canned varieties with dinner or potatoes/corn. Or and iceberg type salad with Hidden Valley ranch (sometimes the bacon flavored variety).

Fast forward to my life as an adult- UMC life. My spouse was born and raised in Middle East. He introduced me to a plethora of heathy foods: parsley, mint, pomegranates, non canned pineapple, bean varieties, so many leafy greens, different whole grains…I could go on and on.

For breakfast I always have a huge bowl of fresh berries with whatever else I eat, I always eat an apple with my lunch too. My kids have fresh fruit with breakfast and lunch every day too. Snacks as well. All of us eat a fresh vegetable with our lunch and dinner. Dinner I usually roast the vegetables, but kids prefer them raw. After dinner snacks are usually more fresh fruit or vegetables.

Our favorites:
Berries- all the berries
Apples- cosmic crisp are amazing
Pears
Banana
Pineapple
Mangos
Dates
Stone fruits in summer
Limes and lemons

Vegetables:
Celery
Carrots (whole are so much tastier than the baby ones)
Eggplant
Brussels sprouts
Cauliflower
Broccoli
Purple and green cabbage
Parsley and mint salads
Arugula
Kale (kids go crazy for roasted crunchy kale)

Sounds like a wonderful kitchen at your house. OP here. Last winter, my fruit obsession was pomegranates.I ate them every day and did not want the peeled seeds! Had to peel my own. Bough a whole huge pack from Costco several times.

NP,

I grew up in a UMC household where my mom just didn’t spend money on food. I really didn’t know that fresh vegetables were a thing. I thought frozen was just the default.

I now love fresh ingredients.

Yes! We buy the whole ones at Costco too and it is my DHs job to peel them. He is way more efficient at it since he grew up doing it
