Bus issues solution.. maybe

I'd think this would drop a penny of at least compassion for you, if not the concern that hey, maybe something's really wrong here? But no.

We all have covid too, pp. But we got vaccinated and boostered so it's a cold. If bus drivers aren't vaccinated I have zero compassion. That's right.

+1 at the start of the year, when a lot of parents were driving their kids, the buses couldn't get through. Everyone was constantly late.

I'll say again. National guard.

How does National Guard help? What percentage of the national guard has been through a screening process to show that they're safe to be around young kids unsupervised, or the skills in group management? What percentage has the right commercial license?

It's so brilliant we have an infinite number of these National Guard robots. They can handle the emergency room overflow, drive school buses, give out covid tests and vaccines....

Hey, funny random story? Yesterday I spoke with a friend who works in a covid vaccine manufacturing plant. They had 300 workers absent on Friday. All sick with covid.

You have covid and now you're pushing spreading covid. Make sure to check the kids for diabetes in a month. Cross fingers all is okay!

Not always. They started the year with a shortage. And many are out due to quarantine requirements. People who haven't reported their vaccination status are treated as unvaccinated. So they may have been vaccinated, but still get to stay home for 10 days due to confirmed contact with someone else. They may not be contagious at all.

First of all, what makes you think all the National Guard folks have CDL licenses?

And have they been background checked? God knows enough MCPS molest kids already.

And you care so much about your own world, you don't give a crap about National Guard members who also have real jobs and families at home. Hmmmmmm.....

I am confident that the parents in more affluent areas can drive their kids to school, car pool etc. MCPS should prioritize bus drivers to those routes.
Its probably hard to do and mcps won’t do it but we might need to do something like this to get through these challenging times.

Cool idea. We have a neighbor on public assistance. Should they send a bus just for her kids?

No, you should drive her kids to school if there is no bus.

MA is considered the best state for education. They pulled in their National Guard to help with driver shortages. They figured it out. We can't do the same? Because MCPS always makes excuses why they can't achieve something that other districts can? Always some excuse. It's like my kids.

whine whine whine, excuses excuses excuses. I can drive my kids to school. I permanently wfh. The majority of parents cannot do this. Talk about selfish, living in a bubble.

Here’s a crazy idea: pay them more.

I think they should drop bussing to magnet programs. Prioritize getting kids to their home schools or special education placement. That would free up busses.

I'm sorry that your kid didn't get in. Thankfully you aren't in a position to allocate county resources based on your sour grapes.

We’re not poor but certainly not in a position to afford $500 a week before / after care for our kids and I don’t trust a sitter - not could I necessarily secure one - to drive my kids? Part of what buses offer is a safe, reliable mode of transport.

MCPS has a duty to provide all students access to a Free Appropriate Public Education. Part of access is bus transportation for students if they cannot safely walk to school.

MCPS has breached this responsibility. Someone will step in with an Office of Civil Rights complaint on behalf of all affected students. Even more so when students with disabilities are denied bus transportation to access the support and services they need. OCR sometimes starts their own investigation when they see such problems in the news.

Well, neither MCPS nor Montgomery County have the authority to call up Maryland National Guard troops. If you want that to happen, start lobbying Larry Hogan.

But good luck getting him to offer assistance to any organization in Montgomery County. Our officials have pissed him off too many times in the past, and we don’t have enough Republicans to affect his run for President.

Our bus drivers used to park in the lane across from the school and smoke cigarettes while waiting for the next assignment. They were all over 300 lbs. Maybe 400. If they have diabetes it wasn't the covid.

I love that you aired this shitty idea out here on the public board for everyone to see, OP!!
Take a look at the future of the liberal movement, folks. You were brought into it with promised of just treating people fairly and giving everyone an equal chance. Bit now you're stuck on the anti-capitalism movement which doesn't seek equality. It seeks to take from you the thing your hard work has earned and give them to the poor. Not *share* with. You don't get to have the things at all. Your nice quiet neighborhoods that you and your parents worked to build are gone. There are no police. The rigor in academia is gone. And now you don't get buses either . Make no mistake you still pay taxes for all of the things. You just get nothing for them now.
