Just a point of clarity, this is "literally" not true. Just get a little extra TP, canned goods, pasta, etc. I doesn't need to cost a fortune. Maybe you won't be eating your first choice items but you won't starve. |
And sanitary napkins. These are things you cannot afford to run low on. (No pun intended.) |
Here’s what I’m doing:
Buying extras of canned and frozen goods. Nothing crazy, but keeping say 10 cans of chicken broth in the pantry vs the usual 3. Keeping at home an extra jumbo pack of TP, paper towels, tissues and tampons. Stocking up on pet food, only because I’ve actually had trouble finding the brand and flavors our pet eats over the last couple of months I am totally that person and can happily admit that 85% of my Christmas shopping is completed |
One tip I just heard is that companies like Minted are having trouble with shipping and supplies also, so if you have something that’s time sensitive, like having custom holiday cards printed, get them done much earlier than usual. We’re doing photos this weekend for our cards. |
Your are all crazy. |
+1. |
+2. There were never real shortages of anything and it’s not going to be WORSE this winter. |
It's not about the products just disappearing form the shelves. Its about the prices rising so high for desired products which have limited numbers that they might as well be. You don't remember when people couldn't find Lysol or Bleach or Hand Sanitizer on the shelves, online, or anywhere? There was none to be found and an entire cottage industry of bootleg cleaning products sprang up overnight at 3x the normal price in Spring 2020. Or what about the run on masks of any kind but especially the N-95s which were out of stock and unavailable all the way through fall 2020. Or the construction supply shortage where lumber was held by the yards and sold only at exorbitant prices. Making building costs during the 2020-2021 years the highest ever seen? Maybe you tried to buy a new car this year. When entire manufacturer's have had models unavailable because of the chip 'shortage'. But keep calling people crazy. |
No, people like you are crazy because you panic bought and hoarded, which created the shortages so that elderly people couldn’t even find food or toilet paper. The media also contributed by stirring up the panic, which people like you eat up like hoarded food. |
TP, paper towels, soap, ready to eat foods, frozen veggies and fruit. And of course coffee and booze. |
Its not hoarding. Its simply preparing my household for potential shortages. If you want to go out shopping every week in the winter - that's on you. |
It’s been proven that bleach and Lysol are pointless so no need to hire them anymore. Op isn’t talking about building projects or cars, she’s talking about food and paper products, none of which are going to be sold out. It’s completely a media and crazy people frenzy that’s being stirred up. And yeah, I go shopping weekly year round. Who doesn’t? |
I don't. Grocery shopping isn't a hobby for me. I buy 50-pound bags of wheat flour and rice which I store in my second pantry and similarly do the same with seafood/meat. I have fresh vegetables, milk, and yogurt delivered via a CSA share. I do my best to only go grocery shopping once a month if possible. |
Oh of course, I forgot about all the hoarding in my second pantry… |
Sure, “it’s not hoarding,” says the lady with a whole closet full of disinfecting wipes and a two year supply of food on her basement. |
