My Dad's birthday is December 23 and I will say it's hard to come up with 2 good Dad gifts that close together. But kids are usually easier.

My H's birthday is Dec 20. I get a bunch of stuff then decide how to split it. My birthday is two weeks after Christmas. My H probably does the same thing...and he actually has an out if something arrives late ("I was saving it for your birthday"). I agree that you're overthinking this.

As for all the cash, many banks offer "kid savings accounts." When my son was 7 we went to the bank and opened an account for his savings. I'm on it too. He doesn't have much money in it, but he was very excited about having his own savings in an actual bank.

We usually do an experience for birthdays- Can you do that? Like a weekend trip, day at Busch gardens, carnival, zoo etc

We give one gift for birthday and four for Christmas. The birthday gift is generally the more expensive. All gifts are from us, not santa.

Yes, stop doing this. Your 6 year old wants your attention and adoration more than they care about gifts.

Well my kid’s birthday is on Christmas so I buy a set of birthday presents and a set of Christmas presents. I will balance it out so the Christmas presents are roughly even with those for my daughter. We don’t get them a lot of gifts though. We open Christmas presents first thing in the morning and then celebrate my son’s birthday later in the morning or in the afternoon. I don’t stress about the presents too much because I’m not going to wait all year to give him something if he could use it right away.

DS is December 24th. We decorate the house in birthday celebration theme, tons of balloons, streamers, have a birthday cake, and give gifts. In January we do a trip - Florida or great wolf lodge.

My birthday is in Dec and I always wanted my parents to celebrate my half birthday so that I would have something to look forward to in the summer- otherwise I got all my presents at once and had to wait a whole year if there was anything else I wanted (my parents never bought us toys “just because” - except sometimes at a garage sale)

So that’s an option too- do a celebration for a half birthday and then smaller for his real bday

My brother's birthday is ON Christmas (he was a premie, so no, they did not plan that). Luckily he is very laid-back and wouldn't care either way, but my parents always made sure to get him separate gifts. Not a ton, just made sure to separately label them as birthday gifts and Christmas gifts. They also let him choose an alternative date in the year to have a birthday party since often his friends weren't available on Christmas or the week around it.

+1. We don’t really do gifts at all. They’re tacky IMO especially in large numbers.

Another fun Christmas Eve Tradition is decorating your house for the holidays. There are all kinds of different Christmas holiday traditions for you to enjoy. Get the kids involved and let them take turns decorating rooms one room at a time. You can do things like hanging red and green streamers from the ceiling.
