Hello all,
My daughter just got accepted by Eastern Middle School's Magnet program. I am trying to decide if I should keep her in the private school or not. One question I have is that for the magnet program kids, do they take science and math classes with the rest of the non-magnet kids? Any advise will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!! |

We are also looking for feedback from recent EMS magnet students.
For OP, at the info meeting, EMS staff said that magnet students take math and science with the non-magnet students. If your child is accelerated in math, there seems to be higher level math classes available, although I was a little uncertain if those accelerated 2 or more years eventually have to go to Blair for math. In science, I am also unclear whether the science classes offered to the whole school are on level and GT or advanced or whether all science is heterogenously grouped. |
| Look on the purple sheet that came in your packet. It looks like you can get placed in GT science or regular science. So my guess is the magnet kids do GT science but neighborhood kids can take that too. |
| There is a post by an EMS student in the thread a little further down "Eastern MS vs. Takoma Park MS." An interesting perspective. If your child ends up in GT science, I'm sure the GT neighborhood kids won't infect her too much. |
