Went to a hotel with kids and cats last night (lost power at 7 p.m. on Wednesday). Hoped to have power today since people only a few blocks from me do, so we came home. No such luck. So now the cats are in a 40 degree house while I'm at work. Kids are at friends' houses. I am so beyond frustrated. Pepco told me I might have power by 11 tonight, but maybe Sunday. Anyone know if I should be worried about the cats? |
Cat's should be fine - they are protected from the wind and wet - the house won't get THAT cold. Many survive winters outside.
Where do you live OP? I'm in Silver Spring not too far from the downtown area and we were on by yesterday morning. My co-worker who lives a few neighborhoods away got hers on at midnight last night. |
Silver Spring 20910, still waiting.
Tropical fish are all dead. ![]() |
Bethesda 20814 here and no power for us either. I've estimated that we've had approximately 12-15 without power in the past 12 months. There is a special place in hell for Pepco. I'm sending them the invoice for our hotel and all of our spoiled food this time. Not that they'll ever pay it. And if they killed my fish I would let them hear about it. |
OP here. I'm in Kensington, near Wheaton. |
Still waiting in 20877 - out since 11 yesterday morning. Cats haven't left the house. 14:19, you are right, there is a very special place in hell for Pepco. I don't even think they particularly care that thousands and thousands of people still have no power. They're just very sorry about it. |
Same zip and we got ours back this morning -- perhaps they are working their way toward you? We are downtown, close to Wayne and Dale. |
20852 Rockville, we got the power back this morning since Wed afternoon, two terrible and freezing nights with two kids. Pepco Sucks!! |
EFFING Pepco! We got power back this morning, then it went on and off intermittently, now OFF again. Just spoke to someone there and she said because of other issues they had to take the power back down in our neighborhood! Are you freaking kidding me?! I am so frustrated.
They suck ass. |
You know what the "other issues" were? That Pepco SUCKS. A friend calculated that today, Pepco has managed to get roughly 7,000 people back up. Still something like 70,000 more to go. |
Bethesda 20817, no power. We stayed through two nights of it (and DC fancy themselves pioneers now) but I don't think I am up for night #3. |
Actually, they are not very sorry about it. Their profits have been going through the roof as a result of their under-investment in infrastructure and maintenance. |
Huge sections of 20816 still out - Wood Acres, Sumner, Springfield, area around Westbrook ES . . . |
We are in 20814 near Kensington and our power came on at about noon. |
