Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS)
|
Hi,
Does anyone who's child attends an Immersion public school in the Fairfax County area know how it stacks up to the Washington International School (WIS)? We believe in the immersion program, but find the tuition at WIS quite expensive to sustain overtime. Your input will be greatly appreciated. |

I think if you want the perspective of someone at WIS you'll have to post to the private schools forum.
Bear in mind though, that anyone who's throwing down $30+K per year is STRONGLY invested in believing that their choice is VASTLY superior to public. Even when and if it isn't. |

OR... They'd rather live in the city and are willing to pay for schools accordingly. If there were a public, immersion PK-12 school in DC I'd have a hard time justifying the cost of WIS, but there's no school like that in DC and I'm not going to leave the city so there you have it.
I don't know anything about the Fairfax schools but I'm specifically attracted to the immersion aspect of WIS, the IB curriculum and that it goes PK-12 |
| Oyster Adams bilingual School (http://oysterbilingual.devis.com/AboutUs/) and Tyler Elementary School (http://tylerelementary.net/programs/spanish-immersion/) are both DC Public Immersion Schools with emphasis on Spanish. If you don't live in the neighborhood zone you can apply for the lottery process. Hope that helped! |
This sounds like a school we're looking at in Austin if we wind up moving there (IB immersion school). It is NOT $30K/year - more like $14K after fees and such. |
