DS and I took sip of rotten milk

Anonymous
DS actually had two small sips and I had one...We both spit the milk out but swallowed a small amount. Oddly, the carton was marked 2/28/11. Ugh. Should we expect food poisoning symptoms or should 1-2 small sips be okay?? I'm worried. Thanks.

I'm guessing you'll both be fine. If you're going to get food poisoning, you'll probably be sick within 30 minutes.

You're fine. Milk tastes bad a long time before it can make you sick. I have frequently taken a gulp before recognizing it's off, and I have never been the worse for wear!

I am sure you're fine. It's pretty disgusting but it shouldn't make you sick.

My 18 month old drank most of a sippy cup of curdled rotten milk. Absolutely disgusting, I have no idea why he kept drinking it. I expected a night full of vomiting (which DH would have been responsible for, as he is the one that left the nasty cup out all night), but nada. Totally fine. No worse for the wear.

You'll probably both be fine, and now you can make some good coffee cake with that spoiled milk!

How is it possible for an adult to have never tasted sour milk before?

Some people aren't big milk drinkers. I have friends who hate it, and haven't drunk it since childhood.

I, on the other hand, have had sour milk a lot -- I drink like 2 gallons a week (yeah, I'm an outlier!), and sometimes you just get a bum gallon that must not have been refrigerated well enough in the store. OP, you're good, I have never heard of anyone getting food poisoning from sour milk, as long as it is pasteurized (i.e. NOT raw milk).

In a completely sleep deprived moment when my second child was about a month old, I ate an entire bowl of cereal and all of the milk before realizing that the milk was not only bad, it was curdled. I was absolutely repulsed, but did not get sick. I'm guessing you'll be fine too.
