Sorry, your first question was open game, thanks for specifying. If you are not playing on pay to play team especially at GA/ECNL level then you are wasting your time and money in the pre-HS years. In HS, you could argue some benefits from training, and being in a competitive environment on a team competing for nationals, as long as you get minutes at Showcases. The problem is it can be difficult to gauge playing time from a parents persepective nor does it benefit a coach to over promise anything during these spring ID and tryout seasons. It's only to the club's benefit $$$$ to roster more than 18 players, not to us the consumer. |
MLS Next has rules, and they roster players per game. So, yes, they all play a fair amount of time if they are a FULL MLS next player. Please don't start the misinformation. |
Just here to get us to the BIG 100 pages of back and forth! |

The better McLean ECNL teams are top 100 in country (itself not particularly impressive). Their ECNLR teams generally aren’t even top 500, some aren’t even close to 500. |

This thread has more posts than any VRSC or FCV thread. McBunion > FCV/VRSC |
This is true for every club in DMV, not just McLean. The gap between the first and second teams is enormous. There are just too many clubs, so too many second team players are playing on first teams. |
Dcum is the big winner. Fancy new ads lately. |
And/or not enough quality coaches in the area to develop second team players. |
More emphasis on second teams is needed. ECNL National actually should look at ECNL RL as a source of potential players, not sure it happens at the moment.

Better have kids being good students and getting into schools that way. The dream college soccer player might not be for every player. Is not an easy task. |
As the parent of a ECNL-RLer, I would argue that yes, there is a big gap between the best players on the NL and RL teams. But once you get past the first ten, the NL reserve players are barely distinguishable from the starters on the RL team. We have had players drop down from the NL team to our RL team, and those players have hardly been upgrades over the RL starters, if they are upgrades at all. |
