Yes. Those houses on Herndon side of 7 are within minutes of the high school and some are pretty close to Armstrong Elementary. Maybe, closer than to Forestville. |
| Can we we stop discussing Herndon and Langley, they have nothing to do with the Western HS. |
| So, no one knows how to opt-in? And where this elusive link is? |
+100 The same poster is absolutely insistent about discussing these two schools, even though (as you said) they have nothing to do with the new Western school. She is absolutely enraged that those borders aren't changing. |
I agree with the PP, too. However, I disagree about the reason. Go back and look at the posts. Who do you think suggested that we did not need the Western school? Who do you think suggested that the kids from this area could fill that school that shall not be named? |
For the millionth time: NO ONE has said that area doesn't need a new school. I think that's the one thing most people are in agreement about. Many of us simply want full transparency surrounding the purchase/funding. That's it. Those are two entirely separate things. Stop conflating them. |
+1, But I’ll just add that it’s very intentional that she keeps lying about it. The only way she gets her way (or thinks she’ll get her way) in the future is to pit Neighbor against Neighbor. That’s why she can’t go even a day without bringing up areas of the county that aren’t even discussed being moved this go round |
Just because a person insists they live in Great Falls doesn't make it actually Great Falls. Maybe the Oakton moms will take this argument up, too. "Just because people say we live in Oak Hill doesn't mean we should go to the high school in Oak Hill". Oh wait, those are actually the SAME PEOPLE who insist they don't live in Herndon, they live in Oak Hill!!! |
This is the whole point though, isn't it? Carson is currently a four way split feeder. Western allows it to become a school that feeds one, or at most two, high schools. FCPS does need to make a decision about what it's going to do about Fox Mill/Crossfield. One of them is going to be left out and it's not fair to those kids to be the only ones at the whole middle school that don't go to Western. Whichever school gets left out should be zoned to the same middle school as their South Lakes/Oakton peers (so Hughes/Franklin). |
I don’t think you can opt in now. I guess “to opt in” means you’re registering your kid for the high school, since they won’t allow double registration. When does high school registration start? January? On a separate note, I think they’ll have to look at the opt-in numbers to determine the boundary, because they have to provide buses to in-boundary kids. For example, if very few kids from Crossfield opt in compared to other areas, it will be hard to justify a bus for them, which means they’ll likely be excluded from the Western boundary. |
This is nice to hear - some people want to be there - fresh start - explorers. We think highly of Chantilly but we are game for Western if its good - CHS round trip is 50 min when my kids have practice - great school - commutes a bit much. Not sure how it will be a great school for a whole with no one required to go there but such is FCPS. |
Ugh, how many times do we have to repeat this? SOME portion of the 180,000 FCPS students can OPT IN- we will tell them in 2027 if they are OUT or in 2028 if they are maybe IN or possibly OUT. Why is this so hard for people to understand?? Have you never been to Vegas? This is a very simple Russian roulette of schools- I’m disappointed more people are not onboard. The cliques will have a hard time setting up shop with this slop. |
50 minutes round trip? How? Where do you live that CHS is 25 minutes away? From my house, Oakton is easily 45 minutes ONE WAY during rush hour. I am thrilled at the prospect of my kids going to the Western HS. |
Maybe at rush hour --and include wait time for kid to load up? I'm a little puzzled, as well. I've made that trip many times. I don't always go the "shortest" way because it isn't always the quickest--if you cannot make a certain turn. I cannot imagine the drive to Oakton at rush hour. But, the round trip is normally pretty quick to Chantilly. That is why we like it. All the kids live close. Glad Western will be even closer. |
Thank you - I appreciate this. I was thrown off by the “Nov 14- enrollment starts” in the board docs. Yes, regular registration is typically in Jan. |
