Uh huh. Fill up Herndon with Coates or McNair, and then that way you can keep busing other kids 45 minutes on a two-way street to get to another high school.

And, at the same time, change Langley boundary students who live in Herndon to Herndon. That would bring Langley under 100%.

This is a nonsense comment.

The city/town name for unincorporated area is determined by USPS. It doesn’t have anything to do with county.

+1

Look at a map. Two miles from Herndon High and on the Herndon side of 7. Much closer than the others they re suggesting.

When the time comes the Great Falls parents at Forestville will sacrifice those at FES with Herndon or Reston mailing addresses to Herndon HS to appease the redistricting gods.

Grumble grumble. Daily record streak is alive and well. I still subscribe to the jilted great falls lover theory as to why you OBSESS over this.

Shhh. Adults are speaking.

Slide 14 here says enrollment begins on Nov 14: https://go.boarddocs.com/vsba/fairfax/Board.nsf/files/DN829T0122CD/%24file/11-12%20Work%20Session%20-%20FCPS%20Boundary%20Review%20Presentation.pptx%20%20-%20%20SB%20Final.pdf

Honest question, why would you want to? You don't know what programs will be offered. You don't know who the teachers will be. You don't know who the student body will be. No sports or extra curriculars. No idea of you'll even have transportation after year 1. Is your current high School that bad? Our do you have that much faith in our superintendent and school board?

Good questions all. And I agree there are only unknowns at this point.
I’d just like to have the option of another school and to be on the list. Can anyone share how this we sign up please?

As long as Coates and McNair are in Herndon Pyramid, everybody would have less concerns with KAA. Great Falls would also prefer KAA over Herndon HS if Coates and McNair are not going to KAA.

The difference is that we aren’t obsessively clamoring to move your kids. You surely get that, right?

But, you sure have been clamoring to move kids from another neighborhood.

Easy, because they will have teachers for all the classes for freshman and sophomore year and they will have freshman and JV sports, even if they are not VHSL certified. I know they will have the classes and basics in place because they want to encourage kids to attend and be happy to be there. I know that the kids will be encouraged to create clubs and extra curricular activities.

I don’t know the teachers at SLHS and I know my kid has no shot of making sports teams at SLHS, he probably ha a better chance at the new school with fewer kids attending and the sports fanatics attending SLHS.

This is ridiculous. You can't KNOW any of those things. They never said they'd have freshman and jv sports. I also find it hilarious that people give Oakton parents shit for wanting to go to Oakton for sports while they want to send their kids to KAA in hopes they'll actually make a sports team.

That’s a lie. Anyway, if you spent 1/10th of the time trying to engage in your school rather than just go after your Langley neighbors, you’d probably have the most desirable school in the county, lol.

For what it's worth, I have a friend who is a science teacher at one of the highly rated high schools (don't want to out her) that has already talked to HR about a job at the new high school. She lives out here, and while her current commute isn't awful (20-30 minutes), this one would be 5-10. I know that's just one person, but I think it's silly to think that it will be all unknown and unseasoned teachers. I can imagine that a lot of experienced teachers who are fed up with their current administration or team members might apply to this school so that can start fresh. I also agree with this PP that it's a good opportunity for kids to start new clubs or for younger kids to be leaders in clubs/activities that they wouldn't have an opportunity to at Oakton/Chantilly/Westfield/SLHS. My daughter and her friends have been talking about it and it sounds like most of them want to opt in (no idea how their parents feel, of course, at least one of them is supposed to go to Oakton).

I mean this sums up why for the most part it's parents of older kids who want to stay at their current HS and parents of younger kids who are excited about the new HS.

Sounds like your daughter and her friends are currently slotted to go to different high schools and they want to opt-in to the western high School so they can all go to the same school. Not the best reason, but at least it's one that makes sense.

Sounds to me like they are at Carson or Franklin and want to go to the new school because it will work out well for them. And, most of them are likely to go there, in any case because there are many at Carson who will end up there and many at Franklin who will end up there.

Of course I don’t know this but there is good reason to believe that the County has reason to make sure that they have all the classes that the kids need and will put together basic sports for the kids who choose to attend. They said at one of the meetings that the teams will not be VHSL certified (whatever it is called) for several years because of the limited number of kids, but they will have sports at the school.

And I am not opting in for sports, but it is a nice bonus for a kid who has no chance of making a sports team at SLHS. My kid is not a spors/arts kid so those programs are not important to us. Moving to the school without those does not matter to us.

I know teachers are asking to move to the new school because several teacher friends have told me that they have put their names in to make the move.

The USPS argument is ridiculous. Just look at the map. Sections of the Forestville boundary look like a giant gerrymandered appendage down into the Herndon boundary. Those homes are closer to Herndon HS than all of Hutchinson is. Everything south of 7 and west of Reston Pkwy should be at HHS at a minimum. Don't want any split feeders though and Herndon has all those empty seats you like to crow about, so might as well move in all of Forestville for all the overcrowding happening in the northeast.
