Cathy Lanier went before the ciy council last month with the sole purpose of obtaining golden parachutes for her command staff. She testified that the reason she promoted so many young officers to high ranking positions was because they were the brightest and most dedicated talent around. Well it appears that these bright, dedicated people in command cannot take a test without cheating. They were promoted for cronyism and Lanier's chickens are beginning to roost.

What exactly did Groomes allegedly do? It was very hard to read between the lines of the WAPO article. By the way, Groomes is awesome, so I hope this will not derail an otherwise sterling career.

Yes, I'd like to know what she did. When she was in District 1 she did an awesome job of responding to the district list serve but I could never make up my mind as to whether that was what you really needed in a high-ranking official. Anyway, because she shared so much information with people on the list, I feel positively towards her but to tell the truth that's the limit of my knowledge about her -- and certainly not enough to go on. I hope things work out.

She is accused of cheating on a federal test for senior level law enforcement officers. She is also accused of sharing answers with other command staff of MPD. She may be awesome in patrolling, but her credibility regarding honesty and integrity is shot. BTW--She has not denied the allegations but have instead apologized for her actions.
