So my DH is a good cop on a shift full of good cops. They have tons of life-saving awards between them and no internal affairs investigations. They support each other and hold each other accountable. In short, they are exactly what you want police to be. So here’s the question: they receive the same anti-police hostility as every other police officer. What else can they possibly do to please the anti-police crowd? PP says they “earned” this problem. What more can they do to earn your respect? Sincerely... I would like to know. It pains ME to see how beat up he feels, and yet he walks out the door to do more good work in spite of the hate he receives.

It is true there are a lot of negative perceptions of LE due to cherry picked videos going around on social media and fake cable news.

But your husband also has a warped perception of reality that is impacting how he feels. The anti-police crowd are actually a very small group of people. I'm sure your husband and his coworkers are watching Fox news and taking the "defund the police" bait. If he gets out of the trenches, he will be a better man.

My husband doesn’t watch Fox News. Ever. I can’t imagine many of his coworkers do, either. As for the anti-police crowd, it may be small but it is loud. It comes for him while he’s at work, where he is regularly scorned by local politicians. He is already a better person than I can ever be, so I’m not sure what more can be asked of him.

I don't doubt that most of the guys on your husband's squad are good people. But the reality is that cops are compulsive complainers. I've been in law enforcement for over 20 years, and these guys cry like little babies about anything that can be construed as not being supported 100% (supervisors, the public, politicians, etc.). And I can guarantee you that a lot of his co-workers are rambling on all the time about right wing talking points they got from Fox News. I wouldn't go as far as saying that it's toxic, but it's definitely annoying.

DP. After this past year, they have plenty of reason to complain.
Being pelted with fireworks, feces, urine, other unidentified liquids, and having to deal with the entitled bratty 20-somethings that have nothing better to do than to assault police officers..... they are allowed to complain.

Add to that the fact that they have been ambushed and assassinated just because they wear the uniform, I think their complaints are warranted.

Crowd control is part of the job, and most cops aren't getting pelted with fireworks or whatever. You are buying into the media's portrayal of a situation that isn't remotely accurate.

No one thinks all police are "bad".

The GOP is pushing that and it's not true.

What we do know is DT defunded the police all over the county. PERIOD> FACT. He owes those departments millions of dollars what do Trump supporters think the police should do with those short falls?

DP. WTF?? 1). There most certainly are people who hate all police. Ever heard of ACAB? Educate yourself. 2). Please provide links to back up your BS claim that Trump defunded police. We’ll wait.

Psaki just made the laughably fake claim that the GOP is behind the movement to defund police.

This is what we know as “gaslighting.”

I would have loved to sit in on the damage control meeting where they discussed their strategy for trying to flip the script.
Pure comedy.

Every Republican in Congress voted against the Covid relief bill that had 350 BILLION DOLLARS of funding for police in it. You don’t have to ask Jen Psaki, you can ask Chris Wallace.

Also, the two Trump campaigns owe police departments across the nation millions of dollars for the extra security that the rallies required but many of those bills have not been paid.

Was there anything else in the relief bill besides police funding or was it some omnibus bill to score gotcha points?

Did the Republicans propose anything that had relief for police departments?

Anyone? Serious lack of state sales, income, hotel and restaurant and property taxes over the past 18 months that the federal government is making up for. The Republicans in Congress had no solution to that black hole?

Name one Republican leader - mayor, governor - or Republican city council that voted to cut the budget of police. Name one.
I can name a slew of Democrat leaders and city councils who have voted to cut police budgets. And, most of these cities are seeing a surge in crime.
Funny how that works.

Funny... Neither Biden nor any of the Democrats even MENTIONED police funding until they discovered that the American public believes <gasp> that violent crime is out of control.

I can hear how this conversation went........

Joe Biden (JB): I saw a poll today that shows the majority of American people think violent crime is out of control.

Ron Klain (RK): Yeah, I saw that.

JB: My poll numbers are not good on this issue.

RK: I have a plan.

JB: What can we do?

RK: We'll blame the Republican for defunding the police.

JB: (whispering) But, it is the Democrats who have pushed defunding the police.

RK: I know, but we can say it was part of the American Rescue Plan.

JB: What is the American Rescue Plan?

RK: It's the covid 19 bill I wrote that passed with only Democrat support. We can say that you included money to fund police.

JB: But many places have already defunded the police. And, they are all run by Democrats. The squad will be mad and the public may not believe us.

RK: We'll get Jen Psaki to advance the narrative. And, Cedric Richmond. And, anyone else who is interviewed by the media.
Don't worry Joe. The media is on our side. They will push the story. We can fool them all. The American public is not that smart.

JB: Ok, if you say so. Right now I have to go and...... find the.......talk to.....see if I can................ you know the thing.......

THIS.

Are you a script writer? Because you should be if you’re not already.

Trump submitted a budget to congress that proposed reducing police funding

Nice try. We are talking LOCAL and STATE leaders - these are the entities that provide the bulk of the funding to law enforcement.
Trump has NEVER called for the defunding of the police like the squad, other Democrats, some in media, Kristin Clarke, and Vanita Gupta have.
Nor have any Republican leaders or legislatures or city councils voted to cut the budgets of police. None.
But, Democrats have. https://www.forbes.com/sites/jemimamcevoy/2020/08/13/at-least-13-cities-are-defunding-their-police-departments/?sh=2e3c1ee629e3

And, as far as the Trump admin and funding to police....

(June 2020)
Probably the most well-known of all such initiatives is the Community Oriented Policing Services program, established as part of the 1994 crime bill. The Department of Justice, which oversees the COPS program, says it has provided $14 billion since its inception to hire and train local police involved in community policing.

Earlier this month, Attorney General William Barr announced the awarding of nearly $400 million for fiscal year 2020 under the program, intended to pay for the hiring of 2,732 police officers in 596 law enforcement agencies. Some of that money will also go to communities to hire school resource officers — positions that some activists have denounced.
