Again, you have no idea what the full story is. Maybe she was hammered drunk. Frankly, she looks a bit red in the face and glassy eyed in her mugshot, like she's been drinking. If they found her sitting at a restaurant bar 5 miles away "getting food" while her kids are alone on the beach, no, she should not get a ticket and have her kids turned over into her possession.

Wow, so now you've convicted someone of being drunk based on a photo taken when the subject has been arrested for neglecting her kids? Jeez.

Well what do you think is more likely? Do you have any idea the benefit of the doubt white women, especially mothers, are given? There had to be something going on that the article didn't detail to end up in ARREST.

And here we go. Yet another thread turns into a lament about racism.

Therefore, they were not mature enough to be home alone. Leaving a young child who doesn't understand safety concerns home alone is neglect.

Yes, but the problem is you often don't know that they aren't mature enough until something like this happens. I worked with CPS in a state where leaving kids home is a judgment call and the effective rule ended up being - if nothing happened, the kid was mature enough and it was fine but if something happened, the kid wasn't mature enough and the parents were in trouble.

This is true, but most parents have an idea if their kids are good rule followers or not. If you aren't sure, don't chance it.

I would be more inclined to suspect that the mom did not explicitly tell them they need to stay inside, not let the dogs out, etc.

Yes, I think the mom probably didn't give the kids adequate instructions before she left.

I would have let the dogs out myself before I ran the errand, let them do their business and then I would have crated them and told the kids not to let them out of their crates while I was gone. I would have also told them not to answer or open the doors and to call me on my cell phone if they ran into any trouble. I would have written my cell phone number on a piece of paper and left it on the counter (even though they both had it memorized by that point).

My own kids LOVE our dogs and I know that if one of the dogs got out they would run after them without a moment's thought. Or if a strange dog managed to get into the rental property yard or deck and there was a dog fight I know that my kids at that age would have tried to intervene out of instinct. Kids love their pets.

Mom should have either crated the dogs or put the dogs in a room before she left the house. Kids should have been told to stay in the house and not open the door.

This also occurred in the evening shortly before sundown. Typically kids that age can't be left alone after dark, and I'm sure the timing may have factored into the person reporting it .

Not at all. You're the one bringing it up. But white women are like, the least arrested demographic there is. If she was arrested, there was a reason that warranted it.

Are you high? I did not bring up race. Also, "if you were arrested, you deserved it" is not how the American criminal justice system works. I can assure you.

No shit, sherlock, but do you REALLY think cops are trolling beaches looking for upper middle class moms who are a few feet away from their kids to arrest them on some age limit based law? NO. She was not near, at all, and they clearly found something about the situation problematic enough that they couldn't just give her a stern warning and let her go.

You bitched about racism, which literally nobody has mentioned.

So why did PP mention white women? What does race have to do with it? Please explain.

Or CRYING, you imbecile!!! She had just been arrested and god knows where her kids were kept during that time.

She would know where they were kept if she hadn't trotted off to a restaurant 5 miles away without them. That's kind of what happens when you don't stay with your kids, you tend to not know exactly where they are. And FYI they were probably being held by the police until a responsible adult could come get them. They weren't like, sent to foster care.

How does that affect whether they would have been crying or not? It doesn't. Stop making shit up about this woman who made a mistake.

White women who aren't viewed as middle or upper class are also arrested frequently. It's more of an issue related to SES.

That she had been drinking. You just made that up based on a picture. She clearly could have been crying, which makes perfect sense given the situation.

She isn't low SES.

I didn't say she factually had been. Just that it would be a possibility given that she was at a restaurant when this happened and could explain why she was arrested. That more than her appearance made me say that could have been what happened.

I realize this mom isn't, but I'm responding to the person who is saying AA women are arrested more often. Lower SES white women aren't given much benefit of doubt.
