Also the cost of everything like college, housing, etc. is through the roof. I’d rather add to my kids’ 529s than pay for a sitter to go eat a $200 dinner somewhere nice.

DC has the highest unemployment rate in the country and our government and the mayoral candidates have no plan to try to fix it, except blame Trump.

Classic DC. It's the federal government's responsibility to supply jobs for DC residents.

There are no industries of value in DC other than government - that is kind of by design.
If George Washington chose New Jersey or Pennsylvania or something spots to put the nations capital, Georgetown would be an extremely tiny town - Baltimore is the economic hub of Maryland and points south until Norfolk due to the deep water port and rail system. DC is a swamp with no natural resources.

Wut? Do you have a functioning brain? What we're saying is a city where 20 percent of the children live in poverty is a city that should not be writing $50K checks to for-profit businesses.

But wait! What if someone opened a store in Georgetown selling artisanal donuts and it turns out that, at the moment, not enough people are buying $15 donuts to even cover their $12,000 per month rent? Surely the government can give them $50,000 through this tough patch? We can't let a store like that go out of business.

The moral thing to do would be a government subsidy of doughnuts. The feds could subsidize $7 and the District could kick in $3. Some non-profits could offer doughnut tokens for the disadvantaged. We can fix this if we work together!
