What about Tuesday?

What would be the purpose of a two hour delay?

Because everyone knows our children will all die if their feet touch an icy sidewalk and it will make MCPS feel better about being forced to open when it would rather stay closed til mid-March.

What the Superintendent should do is request direct access to snow removal services from the county in cases of snow emergency, so that access to school properties, school bus routes and and school bus stops can be placed somewhere in the list of priorities that the County already has. Maybe not at the top, but at least not be entirely ignored like they are right now.

I'm surprised this is not already the case. It seems ridiculous to put the fate of "one of the biggest school districts" on whether the county, at its discretion, is going to perfectly clear out school bus stops. Also, I have seen ZERO plows today, so the answer to that question seems like NO.

We're not jerks. Or at least we're not jerks 60% of the time. We just expect MCPS to function like a professional school district. Not a teenage kid who hasn't done his homework. That just makes us professional adults.

IT means no kids walking before the sun comes up

This. It is a huge county, and people seem to want magic things to happen with our limited resources for removal of extreme ice boulders and skating rinks as sidewalks/ parking lots. In the midst of the below freezing temps the past couple of days where it is impossible for people to be out working for prolonged periods of time.
The country as a whole has to be ready to open. I think perhaps it should be done as “zones” in the future but that would get too complicated I am sure.

DC had the National Guard shoveling last week. DCPS was open three days last week and today too. MoCo could have requested help for this "emergency weather condition" if it couldn't manage to plow out 8 days later.

So kids can see what they're slipping on

Seriously. This always happens when there's snow on the ground after a storm. High schoolers have 6:30am school bus times and sometimes earlier ones. It's dark out. No one wants a kid to slip into the road and get hit in low visiblity. Others need to drive to get to their high schools, which start at 7:45. Not enough light to navigate mounds of snow at 16 years old and fight for parking spots.

It makes sense, from a safety perspective, for the first day back to be well after dawn, PP. And then on the second day they can navigate in the dark.

I have also seen no plows out today, which really surprised me. We were in Bethesda and Germantown. There were major intersections in both that needed more snow removal.

Its probably going to be closed tomorrow as well.

If MCPS closes when FCPS opens there is going to be mass uproar...

Mad Mommy of MoCo is Big Mad. And a total rancid twat, as usual. Mad Mommy of MoCo hates children.

Yep. They cannot not open. But they will have a 2hr delay.

100% bet it is open on time tomorrow.

No text at 4:00 and suggestion in the last one that Tuesday would be open.

But where are all the plows? Perhaps there focusing on neighborhoods far from my driving loops? By all appearances, it truly seems like MCDOT has closed up shop.
