It is OK to check government email for purposes of seeing if the government has reopened. It is OK for the government to ask you to do that. That is not an issue.

Why??? Why must the government be shut down even longer, just because you don't want to go back into work this week?? I have been 1000% on the side of the fed workers and think this entire shutdown has been ridiculous, but after not being at work for a month, now saying "well I hope we can just get until next week at this point" sounds egregious. People are suffering because the government is closed- not just the government employees, but those who depend on their services and have not been able to access them.
