Just serve Gaithersburg then, and don’t drag other students who don’t live in Gaithersburg in. But guess what, there aren’t enough students to fill crown. All updated data show less than 80% no matter what options |
The agreement just specifies a public high school. |
Bingo. Which is why I think the idea of using it as a holding school does make sense. |
I am a Wootton parent and I have been shouting this but I don't think it will happen. Just close the school. It needs a full demolish and rebuild and I don't think we need both. |
Seems like they feel it is important to have a permanent, brand new holding school. Doesn't sound like the most fiscally responsible option frankly. But MCPS thinks the county can just raise taxes for everything. |
If they turns Crown HS as a permanent Wootton holding school. Boundary study needs to be re-drawn. Some Wootton families may need to be re-zoned to other high schools, and some new families will attend the new Wootton holding school. Region program 5 and Region program 4 need to be redrawn as well before one less High school is gone. Lol |
| The data presented by Adnan Mamoon, which shows MCPS having about 4,000 seats available once Crown is built and Damascus HS is expanded are pretty damning. It's hard to argue with their logic for using it as a holding school with that kind of data. So.....why are Crown HS proponents in favor despite this information? |
The data is inaccurate as usual per mcps. They are liars and manipulators . If you listened to the board meeting, Montoya called them out for having incorrect data about the projected population of Gaithersburg and told them she did her own research. She called for a delay until proper time to gather data from the City of Gaithersburg could be obtained |
Then why on earth they need to expand Damascus? Nobody question them? |
Glad to see others jumping aboard this train. Probably why Wootton is last of the three given much of its current area except perhaps Travilah and Cold Spring are very close to Crown and even those two aren’t terribly further. If the population/enrollment does in fact decline as projected, which I have no doubt that it will, then there’s no need for another high school and Crown should not have been built in the first place which is what I’ve been saying since April. The Crown study schools alone would have nearly 4000 extra seats. That’s not to mention the Woodward study schools or the other none study schools. We could be looking at excess capacity across the county of 5-10k seats. At that point it’d be fiscally irresponsible to replace Wootton and given Crowns proximity to Wootton, it’d make sense to populate Crown with most of Wootton coupled with the nearby Crown areas. Wootton’s current building could be renovated at a smaller scale to fix the worst parts of it and possibly use it as a MS holding school. Should its need arise in the future a la Woodward it can be rebuilt. I’ll add that I’ve also said QO needs replacement in the next 15-20 years as well. It’d be far better to replace QO and add to it, than replace Wootton and need to do the same to QO down the road. QO is in a better location not as close to other schools as Wootton is. Crown was a bad choice to locate a new high school. Which made Woottons location already somewhat close to RM, Churchill and to a lesser extent Rockville and QO. |
Because they are incapable of understanding basic financial responsibility. |
Damascus was being expanded to handle Clarksburg's overcrowding. |
+100 check out Gaithersburgs website. No third party data , just facts |
+1 Move all of Wootton which would not fill Crown, and also move parts of QO, RM, GHS enough to level the capacity of all the neighboring over crowded schools. Done. |
But the presentation yesterday showed there are enough seats in the nearby schools to relieve the overcrowding of clarksburg. We end up with 4000 empty seats in this crown boundary study service area with Damascus expansion. Without the expansion, we still have 3300 empty seats. |
