Current season is totally fine. I dont' care about where they will be in the future. Just current. How do you do that on Swimmetry? I just downloaded but don't see it.

It does not. And I would argue for the most part, knowing your rankings amongst peers is unnecessary from my experience as a swimmer and with a kid swimming D1 right now. Swimmers need to have 4 or 5 events that they are making certain cut times. If swimming planning on swimming in college, their events need to fill upcoming holes in the team's roster.
Swimmetry does show your rank in your club, and within the LSC, Zone, and nationally. It also has the cuts and how far you are from the next cut. For the younger kids, a lot of them like to track where they stand for relay selection. NCAP also has an early season meet in which your rank in the club for your age in each event determines selection.

So knowing your rank against the kid next to you is meaningless. Also, that kind of mentality will generally burn a kid out.

Go to the Athletes tab and enter your kid. It will pop up all their events with times and there is an option to click rank. If your kid has not swum an event this season, they will not have a rank in that event because they are only using this seasons times. Same concept goes if you swam an event this season and added time, the time from this season is what is used for the rank, not the faster time from last season.

I imagine the people who appreciate it the most are the ones using it for quick references to things that affect meets like cut times for local and national champs meets, IMXtreme Games meet, etc. I don’t think that’s gendered. It’s also motivating to know which USA motivational time standard they are at or nearing after each meet with a quick glance.

Another SwimMom here and I love MySwimIO too. Also — Machine is very invested in NOT supplying files to third party sites, so Machine meets like the June LC meet are not on these sites. Neither is NCAP’s SC Splash & Dash. Does anyone know if Karyn (NCAP Director of Ops/Meet admin) or Bryce Bohman would be willing to supply these files to the third party sites? I don’t know either well enough to ask.

Yes. It only ranks by current season though, so it’s rankings are not as helpful in the first months of the season where people are still getting back into training and are not hitting their best times and/or haven’t swum all the events yet.

I hate Swimmetry’s rankings because many kids have better times during the end of the previous season and it does utilize best times (only current season times).

I find MySwimIO to be the best site for swimmers and parents. (I assume for coaches too.) As a parent, it has been transformational to my understanding of my swimmer's goals and achievements. I used to produce these ludicrous charts on paper, with the time cuts and did tons of math. MySwimIO does that with a click of a few buttons. (I don't have a stake in any of this, and for what it is worth, my opinion is that SwimCloud was just okay, and nothing remotely as good as MySwimIO.) I seriously hope that this misguided rule in VA is not adopted by other LSC's or nationally.

I agree! A few of the coaches at our club in the Maryland LSC really like it and recommended it to the parents. It’s a great website.

We also use SwimCloud for our HS kids but it’s not that helpful for age group.

Why would Machine be so against supplying those meet files. It only hurts the swimmers by doing so.

I asked Paris this question this summer and she shared she has been hit with many parents also complaining about their children’s information being used by 3rd party platforms and they do not want their children’s information there.

When families register they register for Machine and USAS for their information to be shared, not these other platforms. Given the college landscape using Swimcloud, she did add that one to the disclosures and is supplying results to them. She took the time to follow up with me on their change in procedure.

Credit to her for answering your question in a straightforward way. For the parents who are concerned with their children’s information being publicly available, why would they not just have their kid identified as anonymous anonymous? I have seen that on Meet Mobile numerous times. I also think there is distinction that should be drawn between 12 and under and 13 over swimmers given how common the use of SwimCloud is for recruiting.

Seems like we could treat this like directory information under FERPA and allow parents to opt out rather than wiping the whole slate clean.

I think most parents do not have issues with Swimcloud (older). I do know that the people that are like "all in the data" and rooting in myswimio can be a little weird.

We have a dad in our club who has all of it memorized for the kids faster than his own. He obsesses about his kid's standings in the club, league, etc. He has an almost unnatural obsession with a boy that is on another team and when his son gets to race against him.

I have been told that the son now acts this way too. Kids in the club have told him, it is not about this other kid - who cares, it is about your own times.

So, yea, as a parent, I find that weird and creepy. I would not love another parent knowing all my kids' times and events, etc, when I don't know them. That they are talking about my kid all the time within their family and to people that they barely know on deck. But, you see it. And they love sites like myswimio because it feeds the obsession.
