Would you really leave America if Trump/Musk are scaring you?

No one will be fine when the economy collapses and we run out of food.

I can’t figure out who the targeted groups actually are?

We are actively working on getting a UK ancestry visa and purging belongings that would make packing things up difficult.

We are tech and not medical but the lower salaries are not going to stop us if we feel the country is collapsing.

The British monarchy is at least simply a figure head. In 2016, my family joked we were going to Canada and then just got back to work and reality. This time, we aren’t joking about leaving anymore and trying to figure it out.

I would probably say trans people and liberal politicians, journalists, staffers, and any other type of opposition.

I love these people telling us to leave and then slip in ‘yes, we are dual citizens in the UK’ or some BS. Not the reality for most people.

Find a way out.

Apply for asylum abroad

This is one of the stupidest things I have ever read on this site. No country is going to accept asylum seekers from the US.

I wouldn’t be so sure. I could see that there could an outflow of “refugees” from the US. People that are being discriminated against or oppressed, possibly threatened.

The thing is, there is going to be brain drain from red states to blue states, and blues states internationally. I think that a lot of countries would be more than willing. It’s not like we are trying to ship Trump voters over there

Sure but right now the brain drain is from blue to red. The red states are picking up companies and people.

It was easy to move to a red state when you had the security blanket of a Democratic president and Congress. Now not so much.

+1 most Americans do not qualify for another citizenship or have a high level skill that makes it easy to leave.

Where are the skilled workers going to go willingly? They have to accept a steep salary cut.

I think the OB/GYNs for one would be happy to trade a lower salary for the right to practice evidence-based medicine on a healthier maternal population without fear of being imprisoned. Plus no obscene medmal bills.

And pretty much every civilized country would be happy to have them.

Obstetricians are not used that much in Europe. Many women use midwives I had a midwife birth in the UK and it was the best and safest of my three deliveries.

This is BS. There might be some crunchy people there too (particularly in the UK) but everyone else goes to the hospital. I am from Europe and my entire extended family is there and all the friends i made before moving here at 30yr old. Not one person i know gave birth outside of a hospital. I have one friend who had the first kid in a warm pool (but still inside a hospital and with sn obgyn) and another did three vaginal births refusing pain medications, also in hospital with obgyn. I dont know anybody even acquaintances who just used midwives so it is certainly not widespread

That's because states like Texas touted places like Austin ( a little spot of blue) . With Trump 2.0 only the delusional are thinking they are going to be okay in a red state.

Oh and don't get me started on places like Alabama. Trump just gutted it's intellectual core.

Don't let the 'liberal' mindset fool you.
Culturally, it's very xenophobic even if you speak the local language. People are racist and closed-minded here, especially towards foreigners. Integration is hard.

Yes, some places are safer, but a lot of these countries have real issues too.

This. I am from Europe, my parents and siblings live there. USA is still the best place to live and work. Europe is not the same what it used to be 20+ years ago. There are no jobs in Europe, people are not as open as people in USA, it's a different vibe over there. Europe is great for vacation, but working there is a different story.

Ok, best of luck with that.

I have dual citizenship. The “this is it” moment for me would be armed right wing gangs roaming the streets and harassing people who look different than them. Or government militias harassing people for their race, religion, political views, etc… harassing could mean anything from arbitrary arrests, humiliations, beatings or worse case…killings.

It's very difficult to get a Canadian visa, harder than the UK even.

They have a visa program for caregivers. The money would be absolute crap, but probably about the same as PR.

Louisiana just lost one of its only pediatric cardiologists because he's gay. This is going to happen in all red states. Why would someone stay in that environment?

Exactly, some educated people moved there because of low taxes…low taxes are going be the least of your worries.

OP, I'd sooner take up arms than give up my country to a tyrant.

I'm in a group for doctors who are working on leaving the US. The moderator mentioned today that 3000 new people have joined it since the election.

We really need more doctors in Canada. You won't make as much money, but you'll make more than enough, and you can be proud to practice here.

And you get to recommend MAiD to your marginalized poor patients, too!

That doesn’t happen.

So Europe, Australia and NZ dominate quality of life rankings yet again.

Lot of this is very subjective though.
