I went to a religious school and the princess of our class had a kid early/unmarried. Ran into her a few years out of school said she owned a restaurant, but then clarified that her dad had helped her franchise a Chipotle (or similar). A quick google says she now has a job as a relationship counselor, which she had gone to school for at some point, so good for her.
Mostly seem to be normal jobs and normal lives. I know less and less as we all get off facebook and I don't live around there. Lawyer. Operations Manager. Dentist. Teacher. Evangelical speaker/leader. Nurse. Real estate. Engineer. Banking (small town). SAHM. Many got married and had kids, others didn't, some probably are divorced. Just livinng life. |
What does this mean? How can you possibly know what people make, what their spouses make, what they and/or their spouses have inherited, and how their investments are doing? Are you stalking their LinkedIn, social media, and looking up their primary homes on Zillow? |
One is an oil lobbyist and one is in prison for murdering her parents. Catholic school in a conservative suburb. |
Women are hedge fund wives, men work for hedge funds |
Omg that is crazy. Were her parents abusive? |
My colleagues married women doctors though 🤷‍♀️ |
One of the smartest girls in my class who went to HYP is a librarian and lives modestly. Meanwhile some of the class dummies are extremely successful. I'm sure we all know the high performing academic kids who, for whatever reasons, didn't lateral into a high performing career. |
Same. |
This thread made me join an alumni group and search up some popular/ambitious kids from my class. While I’d like some of their money, I think my life is still best for me. Not interested in a lot of their jobs or locations. |
I am friends with some of the women on social media. Many are teachers who still live in their hometowns and have children who are elementary school or teens, some still married to original spouse, others divorced, others divorced and remarried.
The men for the most part have stable careers but moved away to be dentists, lawyers, etc. My spouse had a different situation for his high school. Many of the popular kids didn't really do well. Some died of overdoses or drinking/driving. Many of the girls are working dead end jobs. |
Successful career / high income often require consistent input over long time, something smart people can’t put up with (too boring). |
I don't think so. As opposed to being a librarian? Your implication that smart people can't put up with a high performing career is really weird. |
Just attended a funeral for one. Age 53. |
Teachers are absolutely not white collar. Sorry. |
Most of them are pretty private on SM, so I dont really know and dont really think about it. |
