"...The updated contract would give Reid an annual salary of $424,146 and a $12,000 annual car allowance..."

This is almost a 12% increase.

Are our teachers and instructional staff also getting a 12% salary increase?

Teachers and IAs should absolutely not be getting her level of pay raise, she is the administrator/CEO of a multi billion dollar school system/organization. There’s not even a 5% comparison between her job responsibilities and those of a teacher, none. This is the equivalent of saying that a federal employee should be making the same as the President.

This is a highly important position with a tremendous amount of knowledge requirement, stress and managing gazillion stakeholders. A teacher wouldn’t know the first thing to do in her job. Yes, teaching is a calling and teachers are very important to our society but please get over yourself.
Nobody is saying teachwers should get a $40K raise, they are saying that their rase should be somewhat similar as a percentage. So if a teacher makes $50K, they should be getting a 6K raise.

She's demonstrated very little competence, but she's a smiley-face virtue signaler, so that's pretty much all that matters. Surprised they aren't bumping her to $500K.

Democratic. You misspelled it.

I don't think she demonstrates any particular skill or knowledge. She's upbeat and seems to spend most of her time coming up with ways to curry favor with the School Board members. But in terms of leadership or progress in FCPS, the signs of competence are few and far between. She travels around the county a lot but I'd bet if you gave her a quiz it would reveal that she only knows where about 25% of the schools in FCPS are even located.

The only news here is that the original 2022 contract is extended on the same trajectory, and that % increases are considered a meaningful equivalent unit of measure regardless of the underlying actual value.

Really? If that's true, why was my January paycheck LESS than my December, November, October, and September check? No, it's not because of health insurance or other deductions. We are insured through my spouse.

You realize the post you quoted is about the superintendent’s contract and not yours right? Unless this is Dr Reid responding, which I doubt.

That post said teachers got the same percentage as Dr. Reid.

Ok. Your post (assuming you made it), deleted the part that read, "Yes, teachers get the same % increases". I had to go back to the original one you quoted to see that.

Wondering why people “WOW” in here.
I read in different thread few days ago, one of the private school principal around here salary is $750k. And this principal only responsible for one school. I believe Reed responsibility is way on top of that (200 schools).

I think it's because that seems like a lot of money for someone who spends all their time trying to destroy education.
I mean is it really that hard?

Hard to believe that FCPS superintendents have gotten progressively worse over the past 20 years given such a competitive compensation package.

All these people defending Reid'a raise - are you related? It's a completely obnoxious amount of money for a public school superintendent to be making. Especially given how poor many of the schools in this district are - just a slap in the face to equity.

IAs should absolutely be getting her level of pay raise. There are so many open positions, many of them in the most challenging classrooms. Anyone who works in a classroom where you're getting bitten, head-butted, spit on, or kicked should not have to stay in the job for over 10 years to make $50k.

This is a ridiculous comment to make. No schools in Fairfax County are "poor." Pockets of poverty exist in this county for sure but the amount of money and resources flowing to every school in this county is impressive. Try going to an actual impoverished school system in this country to see what real "poor schools" look like. Geesh. Some people need to get out of their bubble from time to time.

All of our tax payer money is going to the kids whose parents are not even paying taxes. They are hiring more and more English language learner teachers to help the kids learn English. How about the kids who are struggling and have IEP’s.

Why do you pick at such nonsense? Does it temporarially give you a sense of superiority . Is that why you do it? you are wasting everyone's time when you behave this way.

+1. Plus she's been ineffectual. She should be scrapped immediately just as other public and private schools are doing, elementary, high school and college and university with their ridiculously $$ DEI officers and programs The experiment is over. Reroute that money to studentsand faculty who need it. On the college level, start funding scholarships for the needy instead of spending $30m on DEI (Michigan). And, gosh, maybe the cost of private college now at $96k a year (USC) might come down to a more reasonable level.
