Playground etiquette: running around with pb&j sandwich

PB is not the only allergen that causes anaphylaxis, as many posters have tried to point out.

I’m all for people worried about food and the like at playgrounds, but the peanut hysteria is bizarre. For all you know, it’s a Sunbutter sandwich. But letting your kid run around with a sandwich is a choking hazard, not to mention their gross hands from the equipment (rust, bird poop and goodness knows what else)

I'll remember your wise remark next time I think about letting Larlo run around with a blue crab in his mouth.

When you take an outlier position like this and intend it to be quippy you just end up looking like an idiot with no common sense.

Top 3 anaphylaxis allergies are: peanuts, tree nuts, and milk. Milk is everywhere and is an ingredient in most packaged food. Tree nuts are less so but trail mix and lots of packaged bars have them.

People are agreeing that food should not be on the playground- it doesnt matter whether its a lollipop or uncrustable or even, a blue crab. We are just saying it should be all food not just restricted to PB because of some hypothetical. Its just like the nut safe treats that everyone brings to school without a care for other allergies/food issues. Just stop with food-based treats or only allow top 9 allergy safe ones.

I know you can't tell, but I've repeatedly said that kids don't need to eat at the playground at all.

Gee- Tell Me you’re basic white without saying you’re basic white.

Because clearly you don’t know about shrimp crackers, which are a very common Asian snack available at most grocery stores, or even grocery store sushi made with crab and/or shrimp.

Gee. Tell me you're racist without telling me.

What?

PP could only fathom a blue crab as a snack. If they ever stepped out of their world, they would know that shellfish is not as “weird” an ingredient as they implied.

The only one who implied it as being weird was you.

Beyond being messy & a choking hazarded IMO kind of inconsiderate of kids who may have peanut allergies.

What happened to using the picnic tables right next to the playground.

We can’t stop the world for kids with peanut allergies.

OP I wouldn't do it, because ds had a classmate die due to second hand exposure. However, I don't expect everyone else to follow what I do. Allergy parents know what they are doing.

DP here. Not asking you to "stop the world." Just asking you to raise your children with some basic manners in general. And running around a playground (or anywhere) holding a messy snack is horrible and very inconsiderate behavior, having nothing to do with allergies.

Where is this park you go to where kids smear peanut butter everywhere. Go to another park? Maybe this is just where you live.

Parent your horribly behaved children, who are everyone's problem.

People are absolutely disgusting these days. A family literally CUT A WATERMELON on a wooden picnic table and just left everything they didn't eat behind.
