Thank you. End of thread. But then, if OP did that, she wouldn’t get the sweet, sweet attention she craved by starting this thread. |

This won’t be true no matter how many times you parrot it. Please grow up. |
They don’t want it, but it allows OP to feel smug and superior to those stupid American parents, and that’s the real goal. One wonders why she doesn’t just return to the land where she’ll be surrounded by more intelligent people like she is. Shrug. |
They do not want your crap. But we get it. You don’t care, because it’s aaaaaaalllll about you. ![]() |
Nope. We have multiple kids. All get excellent grades, have no need for preferential treatment and don’t misbehave to need to avoid “entering disciplinary records.” We give gifts at Christmas because we appreciate the people who teach our kids. Your attitude is complete trash. |
So you learned nothing here. How shocking. |
It’s amazing how insecure so many of these supposed adults are. Oooh, the room moms might gossip about me! Oh no!!! Who the hell cares? |
Oh please, you have no idea and never worked at a private school. When it is often part of the duties to spend a week with the kids on a trip - you think there is a school nurse on staff when you go camping? |
And I don't know why a European would send their kids to private. I don't know anyone who does that back at home as public school are so much better. You must be from Southern or Western Europe. |
Can we stop? It doesn’t make anyone cheap if they don’t get the teacher a gift card. It’s fine. |
This is exactly why where I grew up, gifts of value and gift cards to teachers weren't allowed. This is why as an adult government employee who makes a salary similar to a teacher, I'm subject to a strict ethics policy for gifts. It is shocking to me that it's considered widely acceptable and expected to give cash-equivalent gifts to teachers who are also government employees. I'm sure nobody thinks they'd have any unconscious bias toward wealthier students but...come on. If we could just say "oh it won't influence me" we wouldn't need rules or policies. |
Our school’s PTA collects a pooled fund for gifts across all teachers, coaches, and specials. I like this best. They are able to buy meaningful and personal gifts. |
I am at a Catholic K-8 and some parents give thousands of dollars to the Christmas bonus fund. You know perfectly well the school is keeping track and taking care of those kids. I give $50 grocery cards because i like the teachers and I know they could make twice as much money at the public school. I don't think they are offended. They can buy booze or whatever they want.
A friend's husband is a public school teacher and she told me matter of factly that they expect 1000 dollars in gift cards at Christmas and factor that into their yearly budget. This seems crazy to me because he also gets a pension and cheap health insurance so they're not in poverty. He makes more than both me and my husband. |
